    Succession Opportunity: Explosive Welding Manager

    Main Purpose: 

    • To provide a service of explosive and conventional welding to the industry as well as internal clients while ensuring compliance with the relevant legislation and the regulations and requirements from the Department of Labour. To continuously do business and technical development for the supply of these services.

    Key Performance Areas:

    • Continuously develop, revise and update procedures and special rules in accordance with the relevant legislation, the regulations and requirements from the Department of Labour and SHE systems.
    • Achieve and maintain certification of workplace license for the workplace and magazines.
    • Conduct audits and ensure adherence to the required procedures.
    • Report required information to the Chief Inspector of Explosives (CIE) as required by the Explosive regulations.
    • Do induction at least bi-annually on Special Rules Procedure to all involved with handling of explosives.
    • Manage relationships CIE SAPS and CIE Department of Labour.
    • Do business development and market the service of Explosive Welding to all relevant industries.
    • Ensure training and development of personnel to become authorised Blasters.
    • Ensure the record keeping, integrity and control of documents relating to explosives.
    • Manage the explosives stock, magazines and explosives vehicle.
    • Determine and prescribe the use of PPE and related equipment.
    • Draw up estimations for tenders.
    • Any other job related duties as required from time to time.

    Preferred Requirements:

    • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent.
    • International Welding Technologist or equivalent qualification.
    • Explosive Blaster qualification.
    • Diploma in Explosives Management.
    • 3 Years’ experience in the capacity of a Blaster in Explosive welding.
    • 5 Years’ experience in welding.
    • 5 Years’ maintenance and fabrication experience.
    • Knowledge of welding procedures, processes and heat treatment.
    • Knowledge of different types of materials used on site and during manufacturing.
    • Knowledge of design codes and standards.
    • Knowledge of engineering drawings and Design Data Statutory requirements.
    • Knowledge of NEC and FIDIC contracts.
    • Knowledge of Quality systems and procedures.
    • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations.
    • Knowledge of safety systems and procedures.
    • Knowledge of theory of Explosives welding and special rules and protocols for explosives usage.
