    Specialist Employee Relations Human Resources – Employee Relations & Communications

    Job Description

    The Incumbent will be responsible for providing employee relations support services to Line management and other relevant stakeholders across all the departments in the business on disciplinary, grievance processes and collective labour law interventions involving trade union issues. The Incumbent will further provide support to Line Management and trade unions on adherence to Company policies and procedures collective agreements with organised labour.     

        Key responsibilities will include:            

    • Delivering an end-to-end Employee Relations support service to the areas of responsibility.
    • Advising line management on all disciplinary and grievance processes.
    • Providing support to line management on the formulation of alleged offences or transgressions.
    • Providing support to Line Management on precautionary and punitive suspensions.
    • Facilitating the issuing of notices to attend disciplinary enquiries.
    • Securing the availability of suitable chairpersons of disciplinary enquiries and all relevant role players, including all the required resources in a disciplinary enquiry.
    • Liaising with HR Services to assist Line Management with terminations in dismissal cases.
    • Compiling disciplinary enquiry reports, including filing of progressive discipline and formal disciplinary hearing reports in liaison with the office of the ER Superintendent.
    • Compiling weekly, monthly and ad hoc reports on disciplinary cases such as Traffic Infringements and Intoxication cases etc.
    • Processing of misconduct Incident Reports from Security.
    • Facilitating appeal hearings with Senior Managers.
    • Ensuring adherence to internal disciplinary and grievance processes and procedures.
    • Assisting line management to maintain and sustain labour peace at departmental level, including management of work stoppages.
    • Advising and assist line management with precautionary and punitive suspensions.
    • Facilitating consultation processes for disciplinary action against shop stewards in line with the applicable guidelines.
    • Arranging departmental ER Capacity Building training for Supervisors and Superintendents.
    • Providing ongoing coaching to line management on all ER related Policies and Procedures including Labour Legislation.
    • Ensure adherence to collective agreements by organised labour.
    • Ensure adherence to the Employee Relations Stakeholder engagement framework by management and organised labour.
    • Facilitate and attend departmental Union/Management ad hoc, weekly and monthly meetings.
    • Provide support to line management during departmental and mine wide strike action.
    • Ensure orderly collective in areas of responsibility.
    • Liaising with shopstewards in a multi trade union environment.
    • Supervision and maintenance of discipline of shopstewards.

     Intrinsic Qualities:

    • High level of integrity, confidentiality and reliability.
    • Excellent knowledge of Labour and other related Legislation.
    • Good verbal, written and presentation communication.
    • Excellent report compilation skills.
    • Ability to pay attention to detail.
    • Ability to apply and interpret internal standards, processes and procedures.
    • Ability to interact at all levels.
    • Ability to operate in a multi union environment.
    • Good negotiation conflict resolution skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure and time management skills.
    • Data processing, analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Good leadership skills and ability to interact at all levels.

     Qualifications & Experience:

    • National Diploma/Degree in Human Resources/Industrial Psychology.
    • 3 years generalist experience.
    • Valid drivers’ license.
    • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Experience in SA
