    Snr Data Analyst (Finance and Credit Risk)

    Main purpose of this job

    To use data analysis, statistical analysis, data engineering and financial analysis skills to help the Risk and Analytics team achieve its goals.

    The specific Risk and Analytics team goals relevant to this job are:

    • Setup and maintain operational data in such a way that it can be queried to provide insights and suggestions to the group leadership team and operational leadership teams to ensure a competitive advantage.
    • Ensure that analytics are routinely delivered in the form of weekly and monthly KPI reports across the group to ensure that the group is steered toward its goals.
    • Ensure that credit risk is managed in line with the principles of the group’s risk management framework across the group’s subsidiaries in South Africa and North America. This means data based and competitively superior.
    • Ensure that the liquidity risk is managed in line with the principles of the group’s risk management framework.
    • Ensure that the Group’s liquidity risk is adequately tracked, forecasted, and reported on.
    • Ensure that operational risks are managed in line with the principles of the group’s risk management framework across the group’s subsidiaries in South Africa and North America.
    • Provide in depth diligence and analysis to support decisions on new corporate projects including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and corporate debt.

    Based on your unique skillset you will take on the following role in the team:

    • To help the team manage the group’s liquidity risk you will update and maintain the group’s liquidity stress model every month. Including automation, testing, and reconciliation of the data feeds. Investigation, analysis, and critical assessment of the forecasting formulas and logic.
    • To help the team ensure that credit granting decisions are scientific and competitively superior you will wrangle data, setup data pipelines, build models and use statistical techniques to help subsidiaries create the best loan granting rules. This will be done by leveraging the skillsets of credit bureau vendors and performing analysis using internal data for South African subsidiaries and North American subsidiaries that don’t have their own teams to perform this work.
    • To help the team deliver routine KPI reporting you will spend 2 to 3 workdays a month doing your share of routine reports, some of which contain manual elements that can be automated using your tools of choice.
    • To help the team deliver routine KPI reporting you will scrutinize KPI definitions and identify steps to align calculations across reporting segments. You will also do the necessary development of ETL jobs, reconciliations, and testing to change reporting approaches where necessary or to implement new reports and data pipelines where the need is identified.
    • To help the team ensure that South African based subsidiaries are protected from financial crime and operational misconduct you will perform data analysis to screen for possible fraud, operational policy breaches and inefficiencies.
    • To help the team setup and maintain operational data in an optimum way you will liaise with Finance teams, operations teams and the risk and analytics team to scope out, simplify and optimize data and reporting requirements for new projects, ad-hoc data requests or regulatory data requests.
    • To help the team routinely deliver KPI reports you will liaise with IT teams to ensure that servers and network infrastructure work seamlessly with BI infrastructure.
    • To help the team manage the Group’s risks inline with the risk management framework and seize new opportunities you will apply yourself to ad-hoc data analysis, financial analysis, data engineering or statistical analysis projects as directed by the Group Chief Risk and Analytics officer or as identified as high priority from the Group’s stakeholders.

    This role can be fulfilled due to your very strong aptitude in the following:

    • · RDBMS specifically T-SQL and MYSQL and demonstrated by at least 5 years’ experience actively working with these tools
    • · Data workflow automations using Python, VBscript, powershell or similar demonstrated by at least 5 years’ experience actively working with these tools
    • · Statistical and data analysis using tools like Python or R or SAS demonstrated by at least 5 years’ experience actively working with these tools
    • · Data wrangling using Excel, Excel VBA, Python, R or SAS demonstrated by at least 5 years’ experience wrangling and analysing data using these tools.
    • · Financial forecasting using financial modelling principles combined with statistical forecasting techniques.
    • · Deeply critical and analytical thinking augmented by a quantitative, analytical data-based mindset.
