    Senior Specialist - Cyber Security Design and Engineering Technology Information

     

    Mission/Core purpose of the Job

    • To design client-specific cyber security solutions that can detect and prevent cyber attacks. To provide second line technical support in the implementation of response plans to cyber events, known and unknown threats, security risks and vulnerabilities, across the security platforms within Technology B2B Centre of Excellence (CoE).

    Context (Global influences, environmental / industry demands, organisational mission etc.)

    • The MTN Group strategy – Ambition 2025 – is based on 10 main pillars, including the Platforms one.
    • Based on that, an increased focus is required on Enterprise ICT services and platforms across all MTN Operating Companies.
    • In order to accelerate on this stream, MTN Group ExCo has decided to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) dedicated to those services.
    • This is not far from what is happening in other Telco groups, like Telefonica or Vodafone.
    • The current allocation has been selected among few options and has been approved from the Executive Steerco that is supervising the programme with the participation of Group and SA Exec’s
    • MTN South Africa is establishing a dedicated Technology function to support the MTN Converged ICT services ambitions.
    • It has been agreed that the existing Technology support for the Group Elevated Multinational accounts will be housed within the Enterprise CoE with the Operations, Service Management, Incident and problem management being ring fenced into a dedicated function within Technology B2B CoE organisation.

    Key Deliverables

    Solutions Delivery

    • Develop architecture and standards for Cyber Security Services platform infrastructures in line with the architectural blueprints and enterprise business plan.
    • Develop and facilitate the implementation of the client Information and cyber Security policies, standards, processes, architecture and infrastructure, to provide assurance, protection and security client’s data and information whilst enabling continuity of business.
    • Develop the security designs for clients and lead the deployment of the cyber security controls to intercept and minimise threats and attacks.
    • Detect, examine, report and take necessary actions for cyber security weaknesses and violations.
    • Investigate and analyse the alerts triggering in the respective platform and triage them accurately.
    • Manage and resolve a high proportion of cyber security incidents without OEM intervention. Escalate high level incidents to senior team members within the Technology CoE’s Cyber Defence domain.
    • Provide input for planning, assessment, implementation, rollout and preparation of cyber security change requests.
    • Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts and implement the resulting remedial actions.
    • Providing second line consultancy to clients on cyber security issues and determining the security solution required.
    • Support the deployment of cyber platforms to implement security controls and improve the defence of the clients’ infrastructure and applications.
    • Identify and deliver technical and process enhancements that uplift the overall cyber security delivery and maturity.
    • Proactively evaluate any security vulnerably and provide recommendations to minimise risks.
    • Explore and develop a detailed understanding of external developments or emerging cyber security technologies and contribute to the evaluation of their potential impact on, or usefulness to, the MTN.
    • Prepare regular and timely cyber security reports that will enhance management decision making with regards to mitigating the attacks and risks posed.
    • Apply best practice, and continuous improvement and innovation at process and procedure level.

    Business Development

    • Implement a consultative selling approach by seeking out open dialogues to explore an understanding the clients’ business, services and technology needs before offering a solution.
    • Support the commercial team in response to client RFP by translating customers’ requirements into technical specifications.

    Stakeholders

    • Interface with internal and external cybersecurity industry experts to anticipate customer needs and facilitate solutions development.
    • Collaborate across functional teams within the Technology CoE to enable the development of solutions necessary to drive the desired business outcomes for customers.

    Job Requirements (Education, Experience, and Competencies)
    Education:

    • Minimum of 3-year tertiary degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
    • An MBA or post graduate degree is advantageous.
    • Related industry certifications in cyber security (CISSP, AWS, CEH, etc.).

    Experience:

    • A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in an ICT environment within the Telecoms sector, with at least 3 years specialisation experience in cyber and information security solutions planning and delivery.
    • Experience working in a global/multinational enterprise (understanding emerging markets is advantageous).
    • Worked across diverse cultures and geographies.
