Senior Rock Engineering Officer at Implats

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: 

To ensure the responsibility as competent person in terms of Regulation 14.1(8), of Mine Health and Safety Act (Act No. 29 of 1996).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Grade 12 Maths & Science is essential.
• Chamber of Mines Certificate in Rock Mechanics is essential
• Chamber of Mines Certificate in Advanced Rock Engineering Relevant tertiary qualification (Mining Engineering/Geology/ Rock Engineering) is desirable.
• A minimum of two years working experience in a rock engineering department as at the shaft is essential
• Valid medical certificate or be medical fit in order to obtain such a certificate.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• To be responsible for providing a safe mine and support design.
• To timeously input into mine planning and operations process.
• To manage duties as the head of department - Rock Engineering on the shaft.
• To fulfil the responsibilities discussed in the mandatory Code of Practice to combat Rock fall and Rock Burst Accidents.
• To provide guidance to training personnel with regards to strata control related risk and hazards in the workplace
