    Senior Manager, Credit Origination

    Job purpose description

    • To lead the credit front office function in the provision of comprehensive credit risk structuring and origination, as part of the CIB Client Service Teams (“CSTs”) and deal teams, to ensure the origination of new deals is completed within risk appetite and agreed turnaround times.

    Key Responsibilities

    Client Engagement

    • Review and understand complex transactions in order to facilitate an effective risk assessment, thereby gaining an understanding of risk impacts.
    • Analyse credit applications to assess whether the credit risk is in line with the Bank’s Credit Apetite and relative to the profitability of the deal.
    • Demonstrate well thought out decisions, showing sound judgement where applications require specialist Project Finance, Structured Transactions or other Product knowledge.
    • Effective provision of analyses and recommendations where applications require referral to the relevant credit committee.
    • Present credit applications to New Business Approval Committee (“NBAC”), consisting of Exco members for approval.

    Ensure the appropriate and effective management of allocated portfolio.

    • Apply knowledge of Credit policies and practices, and proactively identify and communicate key risks as they arise.
    • Questioning and understanding changes in credit quality in any counterparty/industry and how these changes impact the credit application(s) under consideration.
    • Making recommendations to the Credit Risk Evaluation team to highlight industry trends and the strategic implications for managing the credit facilities of clients in those geographies and industries.

    Ensure an efficient and effective leadership and staffing process.

    • Lead and manage a team of Credit Managers / Credit Risk Specialists in the credit structuring and origination, to ensure that the team supports and upholds CIBs risk and control framework, policies and practices in delivering against CIB's commercial and client priorities. Manage the available resources against deal pipeline to meet turnaround times.
    • Demonstrate and/or develop a proactive approach to constantly wanting to improve and/or change processes in pursuit of increased efficiency.
    • Together with Line Management and Human Capital for the area, determine the people strategy for the area with a focus on talent management, resourcing, development and retention.
    • Contribute to the moderation and Perform to Grow appraisals in line with individual and overall business performance for the area.
    • Mentor key managers in the area on people management techniques and approaches.
    • Motivate managers in the area to set the example on living the values and recognition.
    • Support the Talent Review process and approve nominations for the area.

    Ensure efficient and effective stakeholder engagement

    • Proactively develop and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
    • Build and develop relationships across the firm with various stakeholders with the intention of breaking down silos to maximise business growth.
    •  Ability to influence all key stakeholders through knowledge and experience.
    • Hold primary relationship with clients and handle all aspects of client interaction including coordinating and execution of transactions.

    Qualifications

    • Type of qualification: Honours Degree
    • Field of study: Business Commerce, Finance, Engineering, BSc

    Experience

    • 5-7 Years: Thorough conceptual and practical knowledge of credit procedures, policies and standards, as well as a thorough understanding of products and facilities that give rise to counterparty credit risk. Understanding of Basel and broader regulatory and compliance requirements.
