    Senior Electrical Engineer

    Short Description / Purpose of Job:

    The Senior Electrical Engineer Mozambican Gas Projects (MGP) role ensures that the design, engineering, development and modification of complex and / or specialised Electrical systems are managed and executed in accordance with sound established engineering principles and standards to satisfy business requirements. They should apply proper application of work processes, design codes and specifications, standards and tools. They will ensure appropriate quality assurance/control and engineering rigor which should be applied, to several projects with varying tier ratings as well as to support the SBU in the Mozambican environment. The role requires an individual to be comfortable working with limited or no structure (ie. creates own direction). The role requires appropriate quality assurance/control and engineering rigor which should be applied to studies or a portfolio of projects across various tier ratings. Multi-party stakeholder interaction and management is a key facet of the role.

    This role has a mandatory requirement that the incumbent is able to travel to Mozambique as and when required to support Electrical engineering activities.

    Requirements include:

    Utilising authoritative level of experience in electrical engineering to:

    • Manage and / or execute the design, engineering, development and modification of complex and / or specialised electrical systems (typically Tier 1 or a programme of projects) in accordance with established engineering principles and standards to satisfy business requirements.
    • Comfortable working with limited or no structure (ie. creates own direction).
    • Experience in electrical engineering:
    • Specialist or broad base of electrical engineering knowledge and competence in particular relating to electrical network planning/design and process plants.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of the project execution model.
    • Detailed knowledge in defined fields of electrical engineering (e.g. electrical network modelling & analysis, selection of equipment for use in hazardous areas, transformers, switchgear, motors, VSDs, protection, etc.).
    • Ability to formulate and execute (manage and do) the electrical engineering scope for large multidisciplinary projects (i.e. Tier 1 or a programme of projects).
    • Aware of best practices and able to ensure/maintain compliance in own area:
    • Utilise electrical engineering systems, tools and standards (own, local and international) in own work and projects.
    • Create, develop and update electrical engineering systems, tools and standards.
    • Excellent organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.

    • Active practising of interpersonal skills required for productive working relationships and to work with, or through, others inside and/or outside (including suppliers) the organisation to get work accomplished. Critical to this role are influencing, negotiating, maturity and emotional intelligence.

    • Provide input concerning best practices, lessons learnt and training to Electrical Engineers across Sasol.
    • Tools and standards and workflows
    • Develop Technical execution strategies including licensing, in-house technology development and appropriate use of ECs.
    • Fundamentals of the value chain and business drivers (own and stakeholders)
    • Apply lessons learned and ensure timely input/feedback to identified specifications and procedures. Provide information to support the sharing of knowledge with regards to engineering and technical field of expertise to share with disciplines and/or technology management (where applicable)
    • Selection and implementation of up to date tools and standards.
    • Application of appropriate workflows.
    • Assisting in updating.
    • Identification of key technical risks leading to effective technology selection and support the successful execution thereoff.
    • Advanced knoweldge of the Sasol value chain as well as in depth knowledge of the business drivers in some portions of the value chain. Advanced knowledge of own business drivers

    • Ensure all critical electrical documents are reviewed and signed off by sponsor/S&P/Peers as identified within the Quality plan (eg. PQP, DIQ, BLIT, engineering package).
    • Ensure design is compliant (and addresses) with specifications identified by the project.
    • Identifies, reviews and reports on the process risks impact within a project and identifies suitable mitigation plans to address these risks.

    • Knowledge of relevant technical procedures, specifications and legal frameworks
    • Ensure project success by adherence to cost, schedule and quality targets for own project scope. Critical to ensure predictability.
    • Ensure process deliverables are executed and issued as per agreed schedule commitments. Implementation of technical solutions (small to tier 1 capital or similar size/complexity R&T projects).
    • Timely response to changes / technical queries as per project agreements.
    • Advanced knowledge of applicable engineering QMSes, electrical engineering and environmental specifications and relevant legislation.

    Performance Management

    • High quality service and delivery.
    • Management of subordinates (if applicable).
    • Functional delivery and contributions.
    • Provide efficient and high quality services to the service requestor to match agreed requirements. Service and measurement thereoff to be captured in performance agreement.
    • Management of delivery of engineering deliverables and successful development of all electrical engineers reporting to the individual (if applicable).
    • Delivery on Electrical Engineering Assurance in conjunction with S&P Electrical.
    • Specialist or broad base of electrical engineering knowledge and competence in particular relating to electrical network planning/design and process plants
    • Comprehensive knowledge of the project execution model
    • Detailed knowledge in define fields of electrical engineering (e.g. electrical network modelling & analysis, selection of equipment for use in hazardous areas, transformers, switchgear, motors VSDs, protection, etc.), ability to formulate and execute (manage and do) the electrical engineering scope for large multidiscplinary projects (i.e. Tier 1).

    Reviewing and Reporting

    • Conduct Quality control reviews to guide Electrical Engineers in the execution of their work and verify compliance to established standards.
    • Measure and report on Electrical Engineering performance on projects.

    Relationships, Teamwork and Collaboration

    Planning & people

    • Drive the development of and manage the engineering execution plan with respect to Electrical engineering including management of own subordinates (if applicable).

    Relationship Management

    • Interacts with licensors, ECs and SBUs regularly and has a good external and internal network.

    Formal Education

    • BSc. Eng (Electrical);

    Min Experience

    • Typically 10+ years in the field of electrical engineering but with an absolute minimum of 8 years relevant experience in electrical engineering (Bsc. Eng only).
    • Project execution and commercialisation (Project & Engineering Services and/or Southern Africa Delivery Hub).
    • Advanced in technology area and in field of engineering.
    • Lead a Tier 1/2 capital project or supported on a Tier 1/Mega project (lead in a sub-section of the plant design) or lead an array of small projects across all phases of execution.
