    SAP Payroll Manager

    Payroll management

    • Ensure accurate monthly wages and salary payments are effected.
    • Responsible for testing and implementation of all statutory amendments affecting employee earnings.
    • Ensure Company IRP5 consolidation and reconciliations are accurate and submitted to SARS timeously.
    • Ensure all employees receive accurate IRP5’s timeously for individual tax assessments.
    • Audit master data changes and verify for accuracy.
    • Ensure all third party and payroll monthly reconciliations are undertaken.
    • Identify areas for payroll improvement and provide recommendations to optimise effectiveness and efficiencies.
    • Review all payroll payments to ensure accuracy and existence of supporting documentation.
    • Implement payroll best practice across all payrolls for Sappi Limited and Sappi Southern Africa.
    • Understand the implication and application of all benefit programmes (medical aid, retirement funding, housing, leave, bonuses, shares) available to employees and ensure that payroll payments are reflected accurately.
    • Ensure the effective resolution of all payroll related queries.
    • Evaluate and flag any risk areas and ensure that contingency plans are in place. (Regional MIS and performance bonus checked)
    • Review U-Filing reports prior to submission.
    • Approval payroll journals prior to posting,
    • Reviewing S189 calculations prior to submission to stakeholders.

    Financial management

    • Assist with the salary budgets for Sappi Limited and RHO by utilising BPC.
    • Ensure that accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger transactions are performed.
    • Analyse and adjust the annual leave accumulation and 13th cheque on a quarterly basis.
    • Ensure that all vendor payments occur timeously with supporting documentation.
    • Ensure that all suspense accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis and in line with policy.
    • Perform quarterly checks on balancing of tax and IRP5’s and undertake the bi-annual sign-off of completed reconciliations.

    Reporting

    • Ensure monthly costs are analysed on an ad hoc basis.
    • Review quarterly annual leave liability reports.
    • Review and submit monthly skills development levy calculations for the General Manager Learning
    • Ensure the monthly EMP201 reports are submitted to SARS.
    • Review and submit RMA earnings declarations for certain business units.
    • Review annual medical aid liability reports prior to submission.
    • Review quarterly payroll costs for PAMSA candidates prior to submission.
    • Review annual retirement funding statistics to the tax department.

    Ad hoc

    • Responsible for payroll system implementation and projects such as joint ventures.
    • Releasing creditor payments.
    • Perform user access reviews.
    • Managing the Shared Services Payroll department.
    • Oversee the recruitment recognition, performance management, remuneration, development and discipline of the team.
    • Take direct responsibility for the development of direct reports.

    The ideal candidate should have

    Relevant Bachelors’ degree.

    • 3 or more years' SAP Payroll experience.
    • 3 or more years’ experience supporting Finance Processes e.g. Income tax, GL recons and journals.
    • 3 or more years' Management experience.
    • Advanced Excel skills.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable legislations.
    • Diploma in Payroll Management preferred.
    • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and people management is essential.
    • Employee Central knowledge is preferred.
