    Grant Funded One-Year contract

    • The Southern Centre for Inequality Studies is an interdisciplinary research centre located in the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management. The SCIS has embarked on one-year research and policy project examining black empowerment in South Africa, and its impact on inequality and economic development. The SCIS requires a researcher to support the principal investigator on the project. The researcher will be required to manage and implement an interdisciplinary research project with the SCIS and its partners in academia, government, and civil society and contribute directly to research outputs.

            
    REQUIREMENTS:

    • At least a master’s degree (but PhD preferred) in economics, sociology, development or related field;
    • Experience designing, implementing and managing research projects in an academic or policy setting;
    • Excellent research skills with proven ability to produce accredited publications and a publications record;
    • A high level of motivation, the ability to work with limited supervision and a commitment to progressive policy formulation for South Africa and the global South. 
    • This is an academic position in a small but highly-motivated Southern Centre for Inequality Studies, based in the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management at Wits University. It has an attractive remuneration package and conditions of service. The post is a fixed term, one-year grant-funded post.
