    Research Consultancy

    The Geneva Academy is a joint centre of the University of Geneva Law Faculty and the Graduate
    Institute of International and Development Studies. Our research focuses on strengthening human
    rights protection, the international laws of armed conflict and transitional justice. In these areas,
    the Geneva Academy makes a specific contribution to policy development and debate, in
    government and among scholars and practitioners.
    We are recruiting a team of 4 home-based researchers to support a project analysing the state of
    IHL implementation in current armed conflicts globally. The position remit will involve conducting
    high quality secondary research on the state of IHL in selected fragile and conflict affected states
    to feed into a global annual report. Each researcher will cover one of the following regions: AsiaPacific, Middle East-North Africa, Southern-West-East Africa and Central-South Americas.

    Duration of consultancy: 9 months (1 February – 30 October 2024) 60–80% (possibility of renewal)

    Reports to: The Head of Research and Policy Studies and Lead Researcher

    Education:

    • PhD or masters in international law with a specialization in international humanitarian law or equivalent

    Thematic knowledge:

    • Country-specific/region-specific knowledge of the application of IHL in thecountries under the researcher’s remit. Demonstrated experienced working in/knowledge of the humanitarian sector. Knowledge of digital data collecting techniques and verification

    methodologies.
    Experience:

    • 5–10 years of professional experience in IHL research.

    Key personal skills:

    Excellent oral, written and analytical skills in English are required. Highly
    desirable attributes include flexibility, multi-tasking, transdisciplinary thinking, reliability, and
    adherence to deadlines.
