    Research Administrator (AD9)

    Main Purpose:

    • To support the function of the Assistant Dean (AD) of Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Support and the Health Sciences Research Office (HSRO) in its quest to provide information and assistance to the Faculty’s staff and postgraduate research community. Specifically, this will involve assisting Faculty researchers to complete their online National Research Foundation (NRF) rating applications, providing support on selected special projects and derivation and/or reporting of Faculty research data to the AD (including Faculty RFA’s, PhD seminars, events and marketing material).

    Duties:

    • Liaise with Faculty Researchers that are eligible to apply for NRF rating.
    • Upload biographical information provided by the applicants onto the NRF website, and monitor final submissions and outcomes.
    • Manage specific Faculty funded Research RFA’s (Requests for Applications), from distributing information, setting up a selection meeting, taking minutes of the meeting, communicating outcomes to applicants, follow up on actions, to liaising with the finance officer.
    • Organize the biannual Postgraduate PhD seminars in consultation with the AD and Faculty Registrar.
    • Book venues/ arrange catering where necessary.
    • Assist the AD with derivation and/or reporting of Faculty research data, as required.
    • Compile information, respond to and generate relevant correspondence and communication pertaining to the above duties, to all Faculty staff and Postgraduate Students.

    Qualifications & experience:

    • Undergraduate degree, with at least 2 years of relevant work related experience. An Honours Degree, or higher, would be an advantage
    • Evidence of broad-based thinking and exposure to medical research would be an advantage
    • Some understanding of the Health Sciences University environment
    • Team player, work independently, pro-active and ability to work under pressure where the workload is unpredictable
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Computer literate (MS Office) including Excel and Power Point
