    Quality Improvement Mentor

    Job Advert Summary    
    Purpose of the position

    • Provides on-site and hands on Quality Improvement (QI) coaching to THCA Clinical mentors, . partner staff and frontline facility QI teams, as well as health department programme managers and clinic supervisors (where appropriate). Assists in the coordination and management of all QI projects within the Department of Health programmes supported by THCA in the Amathole District. In consultation with the Quality Improvement Technical Advisor is responsible for the training, direction, coordination, and evaluation of the CQI programme in the Amathole District. Receives guidance and support from, and works closely with the district clinical and QI technical lead and QI strategic advisor

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Bachelors or Honours Degree in Primary Health Care from college or university program certificate with two to four years related experience; or equivalent combination of education/training and experience.
    • Experience in improvement methodology or process engineering, LEAN or Six Sigma will be an advantage
    • Masters Degree in Public Health with at least one years’ experience in improvement methodology or process engineering, LEAN or Six Sigma
    • Non-health related Bachelors or Honours degree with at least one years’ experience in improvement methodology or process engineering, LEAN or Six Sigma
    • Some formal training in QI or process engineering and a relevant Quality Improvement certified course will be an advantage
    • Minimum of 2-4 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Able to communicate in English and isiXhosa is an advantage
    • SANC Registered (where appropriate to primary discipline)
    • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, and routine database activity, word processing, spread sheet, graphics.
    • Computer literate: Efficient in Microsoft office, Excel, PowerPoint, SPSS, STATA and spreadsheet application
    • Demonstrate knowledge of synthesizing information and presentation, knowledge of evaluation designs in HIV programs
    • Valid code 08 Driver’s License and willingness to drive oneself
    • Own Transport

    Duties and Responsibilities    
    Quality Improvement

    • Contribute to the development and execution of multi-facility Quality Improvement (QI) projects with QI leads in order to improve health systems and patient care
    • Conduct (QI) site visit scheduling, coordination and oversight
    • Support facilities to put together QI teams
    • Mentor and support THCA Nursel Mentors in QI and on supporting facility-based teams to conduct QI interventions towards achieving the multi-facility QI project aims including
    • Mentor and support clinic supervisors and facility-based QI teams to conduct QI interventions towards achieving the multi-facility QI project aims including
    • Using data to identify gaps in care
    • Identifying underlying causes of the gaps
    • Developing, testing and spreading change ideas to close the gaps
    • Tracking data over time
    • Displaying QI activities and line graphs at the facility
    • Recording QI activities
    • Assists facilities to develop SOP for implementing successful changes

    Human Capital Management

    • Developing QI capacity among sub-district health department staff (eg programme managers and clinic supervisors where requested), THCA and partner staff
    • Continual self-development and keeping up to date with latest developments in the field
    • Conducting ongoing feed-back session with THCA Managers
    • Develop, lead, monitor and report on project related to health information strengthening, including uLTF, LTF, HPRS, TIER.Net HTS module utilisation.
