Project Manager - REF: JW390EX/2024 at Johannesburg Water

PURPOSE

• Manage project execution and contract administration within the capital program, ensuring effective oversight of technical, administrative, contractual, and financial aspects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise contractors and consultants to ensure adherence to contract documents, General Conditions of Contract (GCC), specifications, and legislative requirements.
• Assess progress, approve, and process payment certificates from contractors and consultants.
• Conduct site inspections to verify that work is being performed according to plans.
• Create and update project plans using MS Projects and monitor progress.
• Review Preliminary and Detailed Design Reports with Johannesburg Water stakeholders.
• Evaluate the Bill of Quantities provided by consultants to ensure alignment with project scope and market standards.
• Update GIS with proposed new services.
• Acquire resources such as contractors, consultants, and equipment following Company procurement policies, procedures, and CIDB legislation.
• Prepare and present Bid Committee reports and lead tender briefing sessions with the Supply Chain Management Unit.
• Develop project cost and cash flow plans before project initiation.
• Monitor budget expenditures and report potential over- or under-expenditures to the Investment Manager.
• Ensure contractors comply with quality plans, GCC, and SA National Standards (SANS 1200).
• Oversee the quality of project activities, including work by consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Management standards.
• Identify and assess project risks and implement mitigation plans.
• Review the consultant’s close-out report to confirm all project elements are documented.
• Brief Ward Councilors and the Communications Department on project details.
• Oversee all human resource activities related to this role.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• BTech / BSc degree in Civil Engineering (NQF 7)
• 5 years of experience in civil engineering (water and sewerage/sanitation), including 2 years in project management
• Valid driver’s license (Code B)
