    Professional Nurse Casualty / ER

    Job Description:

    Your responsibilities will also include:

    • Act as a role model and reinforce a workplace culture where safety and health for the site is paramount.
    • Performing wound care.
    • Work according to their Scope of Practice and be knowledgeable of Health Legislation in South Africa. (Acts and Omissions).
    • Stabilizing patients who are in critical condition.
    • Triaging patients accordingly to acuity
    • Setting up and administering IVs
    • Taking patient vitals
    • Working alongside law enforcement in trauma cases that have resulted from criminal behaviour
    • Taking blood samples.
    • Maintaining close lines of communication with physicians and other staff.
    • Recognizing the signs and symptoms of clinically unstable patients who are deteriorating.
    • Maintaining appropriate medical supplies and equipment.
    • Administering basic life support, CPR, and first aid as needed.
    • Reporting cases of neglect or abuse to child protective services (CPS) if needed.
    • Maintaining rigorous patient care documentation.
    • Providing emotional support to patients and their families or loved ones.
    • Administering emergency medications like those that are to be given during a ‘code blue'.

    This role is at the Safety, Health & Asset Reliability department at a Band 8 level reporting to the Senior Professional Nurse.

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12
    • Diploma or Degree in Nursing Science
    • Registered with SANC
    • Basic Life Support certificate
    • Certificate in Trauma Nursing Care would be advantageous

    Experience, Knowledge & Skills:

    • 2 – 3 years’ trauma experience
    • Experience within the mining environment would be advantageous
    • Computer literate
    • QMed experience would be advantageous
    • Knowledge of nursing processes, procedures and techniques and a good understanding of the health care policies
    • Understanding of safety management, behavioural safety and risk management framework, procedures and systems
    • Good understanding of the related health care policies and procedures
    • Willing & able to work overtime / be on standby as per operational requirements
    • Experience in good clinical practice
    • Communication skills (written and verbal) and report writing skills 
    • Valid Driver’s license
    • People management skills
    • Medically fit
