    Principal Professional Officer Ref: WS 73/24

    Requirements:

    • B.Sc. or B.Tech in Hydrogeology, Earth Sciences, or a relevant field.
    • Professional Registration with SACNASP (South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions).
    • A minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience in the development and operation of groundwater schemes for bulk water supply.
    • Computer literacy.
    • Experience with groundwater modelling software will be an advantage.
    • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field will be an advantage.
    • Valid Code B driver’s license.

    Key Performance Areas:

    • Apply knowledge of fundamental geology to understand how rock types and structures in an area impact groundwater occurrence and movement.
    • Understand and interpret maps, geographical data, historical evidence, and models to build a comprehensive picture of the groundwater regime and/or land contamination.
    • Develop conceptual site models of groundwater/surface water interactions and contamination.
    • Develop Guidelines for Assessment, Planning, and Management of groundwater at a catchment level to support planning decisions and objectives.
    • Develop strategies and tools for the conjunctive use and management of surface water and groundwater at the catchment level, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Evaluate Strategic Water Resource Management challenges and provide a Resource Management Decision Support Service.
    • Prepare specifications, contract administration, commission work, and manage the performance of contractors.
    • Draft letters and reports to resolve queries or problems.
    • Evaluate development applications.
    • Respond to enquiries and requests for services from clients.
