    Plant Assistant Alrode - Alberton

    Job Description

    • The Logistics and Transport team is looking for a Plant Assistant to join their Alrode team.
    • As a Plant Assistant, you will be responsible for the following activities:

    Strategy

    • Assist shift supervisor to handle the operations of the terminal to ensure all terminal activities and products received, handled and issued are done so safely and efficiently thereby contributing to improved controls.

    Key Results

    • Effective stock control to ensure - Checks with Supervisor that stock levels are maintained at set targets to minimise working capital requirements and to meet supply demands.
    • Assist supervisor with the dipping of vehicles to ensure that gains/losses are within accepted norms/standards to minimise stock losses.
    • Control the loading and issuing of all product in the depot to ensure - Assist Supervisor with regards to accident reports and perform regular gantry observations for non-compliance by BVO’s to Work Instructions, housekeeping and vehicle operating requirements to ensure a reduction in accidents within the plant.
    • Control the drain-back of product by checking tank capacities, correct pumping and completing relevant documentation to ensure no contamination of the tanks and effective stock and quality control.
    • Assist with the terminal’s maintenance programmes at minimum cost ensuring no loss of revenue due to downtime in the plants operation, the company’s assets are protected and all risk is minimised.
    • Assist Supervisor and HSEQ Co-ordinator with HSEQ and security of the plant to ensure constant adherence and compliance to the Company’s standards, any local by-laws and government legislation.  This to minimise all risk pertaining to the company’s assets and stock, be an excellent corporate citizen, remain operational and ensure the safety of all people.
    • Assist Supervisor with operational crises and problems pertaining to plant by activating emergency plans and advising all affected parties so as to avoid any/minimal disruption of the operational activity in the plant.
    • Ensuring that storage tanks are dipped to record volume, water and temperature
    • Maintain the housekeeping in the plant workshop, laboratory, fire control room and flammable liquid store.
    • Ensure that workshop utilised by the transport contractor conforms to TSA standards.
    • Assist with sample taking and do test result in the lab.
    • Perform any other duties as reasonably requested by the Terminal Supervisor or Shift Supervisor

    HSEQ

    • To effectively manage and minimise the risk associated with depot operations by ensuring:
    • Compliance with all HSE Policies, rules, guidelines and legal requirements within area of responsibility;
    • Promotion of safe working environment and positively contributing to the company HSE KPI’s and risk reduction strategies;
    • Ensure HSE competency requirements are enforced within area of responsibility.

    Context and environment

    • Physical work ex. handling of product hoses and firefighting equipment
    • Shift work with overtime required
    • Working at heights required
    • Cold and warm weather conditions are characteristics of the area
    • Contact with hydrocarbon products possible
    • Replenishment mode is road and pipeline

    Candidate profile
    Qualification:

    • Matric or Diploma/BTech in Engineering / Logistics
    • 0-3 years experience gained in a petrochemical, production, and warehousing or industrial environment
