    Officer: Health and Safety

    Core Description

    • The purpose of the job is to support the compliance and administration of OHS policies and programs in the business unit. Tracking compliance to OHSA, company policies, procedures, standards, and process

    Key Deliverables / Primary Functions

    • Support the development of OHS policies and programs
    • Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.)
    • Assist with risk assessments and enforce preventative measures
    • Assist in review of existing policies and measures and update according to legislation and company standards.
    • OHS training of employees.
    • Manage the Training Matrix and keep it up to date.
    • Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g., not using protective equipment)
    • Report any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy
    • Conduct, record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle worker’s compensation claims.
    • Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to HSSE Manager.
    • Support the organization generally in any OHS Related Issues.

    Core Functional Skills & Knowledge

    • General basic understanding / knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment and tooling within the fuel industry
    • Understanding of Health and Safety and client Safety Requirements.
    • Knowledge of OHS Act
    • Understanding of the forecourt retail environment within the fuel industry
    • Strong administrative skills

    Minimum Qualifications

    • NQF 4: Grade 12 National Diploma

    Additional Qualification preferred or advantage

    • NQF 6: 3 year Degree/ Diploma/ National Diploma in Safety Management will be an advantage

    Experience

    • 2+ experience in Health and Safety within the fuel industry.
