    NRF SARChI Research Chair in Teacher Education in the Global Institute for Teacher Education and Society (GITES): 5-year contract

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Doctoral qualification in Education.
    • Eligibility for a full professorship at the university.
    • An outstanding research reputation, with national and international acclaim in disciplines relevant to the Chair.
    • An extensive publishing record in prestigious academic publications.
    • A history of successful postgraduate supervision up to the PhD level.
    • Proficiency in the financial administration of research funds.
    • Proven experience in generating funds.
    • Experience in managing various sizes of research projects, including report writing.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
    • Strong interpersonal and leadership qualities.
    • Participation and active engagement in university committees
    • A strong interest in using creative and interdisciplinary research methods.
    • Candidates who do not currently reside in South Africa must be willing to spend at 50% of their time in the country.

    Recommendations for candidates include the following:

    • NRF rating of C-1 is recommended for South African candidates.
    • Remuneration will be commensurate with that of an NRF SARChI Chair Tier 1.

    Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

    • Ushering in the next stage of the SARChI research initiative in Teacher Education.
    • Conducting and publishing high-quality research and expanding scientific research and innovation capacity in Teacher Education.
    • Improve South Africa’s international research and innovation competitiveness in Teacher Education 
    • Supervising postgraduate students at honours, master's and doctorate levels.
    • Mentoring postdoctoral fellows affiliated with the SARChI Chair and creating research career pathways for young and mid-career researchers.
    • Strengthening the Chair's research links in South Africa as well as internationally.
    • Active participation in the academic and intellectual objectives of the University

    Competencies

    • Proficient in conducting high-quality and impactful research.
    • Demonstrates strong leadership and ability to offer academic and strategic guidance.
    • Capable of establishing and maintaining productive research relationships.
    • Experience guiding researchers and overseeing postgraduate students.
    • Expertise in obtaining external funds for research projects.
    • Proven ability to effectively manage research projects.
    • Exceptional communication skills, both vocal and written.
    • Creativity in tackling educational issues.
