    Manager: Laboratory and Quality Assurance (Job Level 7)

    Duties/Pligte        

    • Managing the daily operation of the quality management system in a DNA sequencing laboratory;
    • Implementing, managing, and maintaining ISO17025 and/or ISO15189 Quality Management Systems (management and technical);
    • Participating in SANAS assessments and ensuring compliance;
    • Interacting with clients and service providers of DNA sequencing services;
    • Participating in external quality assurance (EQA) for DNA sequencing;
    • Conducting problem-solving, root-cause analysis, implementing corrective actions, and monitoring their effectiveness;
    • Preparing reports and trend analyses to communicate the outcomes of all quality activities;
    • Managing budgets and supervising laboratory staff;
    • Publishing research findings in accredited peer-reviewed journals;
    • Submitting grant funding proposals to national and international stakeholders.

    Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes        

    • A PhD in molecular virology or a related discipline;
    • HPCSA accreditation as a Medical Scientist;
    • At least five years' experience in running a DNA sequencing laboratory;
    • Experience as a SANAS-nominated / facility representative;
    • Demonstrated competence in leading a laboratory to attain ISO15189 and/or ISO17025 accreditation;
    • Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory procedures, quality control principles, safety regulations, and data analysis techniques;
    • Strong leadership abilities, combined with effective collaboration in multi-disciplinary teams;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
    • Strong organisational skills coupled with meticulous attention to detail
