Manager: Fixed Assets – REF: JW390EX/2024 at Johannesburg Water

PURPOSE

• Support the entity in achieving its service delivery goals efficiently and effectively by overseeing the acquisition, utilization, and disposal of assets. Manage the associated risks and costs throughout the asset life cycle, ensuring accurate accounting and GRAP-compliant reporting of fixed assets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee departmental resources and maintain the JW Fixed Asset Policy.
• Manage the Fixed Asset register for accuracy and reliability, taking responsibility for the register module in JW’s accounting system and following all related processes and accounting procedures.
• Ensure compliance with GRAP accounting standards.
• Manage and verify the fixed asset register electronically, track asset movements, and coordinate with both internal and external auditors.
• Reconcile the fixed asset register with the General Ledger (GL) and the Annual Financial Statement (AFS).
• Verify all JW-owned assets against the fixed asset register.
• Contribute to the preparation of PPE (Property, Plant, and Equipment) and related notes in the financial statements.
• Prepare lead schedules and working papers for the AFS.
• Assist auditors by preparing for Fixed Asset unit audits.
• Execute year-end closing processes.
• Drive process improvements for enhanced efficiency and productivity in fixed asset management.
• Collaborate with the JW Finance team and other departments to understand their needs regarding fixed asset accounting transactions and reports.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• BCom Degree (NQF 7) in Accounting
• 5 years of experience in fixed asset management
• Valid driver’s license
