Management Accountant at eThekwini Municipality

Job Purpose    

• To provide an effective and efficient financial and management accounting support to aid Senior Management in the decision making process.

Key Responsibility Areas    

• Controls and coordinates the consolidated budget preparation of both the Operating and
• Capital Estimates for the Engineering, ETA and Procurement Units.
• Coordinates, controls and consolidates the preparation of Operating and Capital Comparative statements for the Engineering, ETA and Procurement Units.
• Monitors monthly operating and capital expenditure and undertakes cost analysis exercises.
• Undertakes special projects and research into matters relating to scope, functions and financial implications.
• Undertakes compliance and adherence testing to financial regulations and accounting policies.
• Coordinates, monitors and examines all tariff reports and prepares management accounting reports for the respective Heads and Deputy Heads of the various output Units and DCM Treasury.
• Assumes responsibility for asset management for the clusters from a financial perspective.
• Reviews and responds to the various statistical returns and statistics requested by various bodies from time to time.
• Deputises for the Manager in Departmental Accounting Engineering.
• Coordinates the JDE Training requirements of the branch and liaises with the JDE business consultant with regards to enhancement and upgrades.

Essential Requirements    

• Relevant 3 year tertiary qualification in at least one of the following: CA(SA), CIMA, CIS
• Associate membership of IMFO or B.Com degree or comparable degree, all with Accounting as a major.
• Must be in possession of National Treasury MFMA minimum competency qualification (NQF6) OR Must obtain a National Treasury MFMA minimum competency qualification (NQF6) within 18 months of date of appointment.
• Valid motor vehicle drivers license (Code B).
• 4 Years relevant experience.
• Computer Literacy.

Preferred Requirements    

• Relevant post graduate qualification.
• 6 Years post graduate management accounting experience together with JDE and Excel/Quatro Pro competency.
