LHD Operator (Mangweni) at Afrimat

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

• Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 3 qualification
• Valid LHD certificate of competence is essential
• Competent B certificate is essential
• Trackless equipment physical experience
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in operating an LHD in an underground mining environment
• Be proficient with hand tools
• Valid driver’s license is essential
• Must be able to read and write
• Knowledge of the Mine Health and safety act
• General knowledge of underground operations
• Good operating ability in confined space
• Competent A will be advantageous

Duties and Responsibilities (Not limited to):

• Assist Mechanics in maintenance and repairs
• Safely and efficiently Operates LHD according to laid down procedures and job standards
• Performs visual pre-start check on machine, according to the pre-start checklist and reports defects to the Miner
• Maintaining proper loading techniques
• Maintaining good housekeeping in the work environment
• Safely and sufficiently operate the LHD
• Identifies symptoms leading to mechanical breakdowns before they occur, by observing gauges, visual inspections and listening for abnormal sounds and immediately reports any defect to the Miner
• Carry out a risk assessment before commencing loading
• Achieve targets as agreed by the Mine Overseer
