    Job description

    Responsibilities:

    • Partake in lecturing classes in post and undergraduate levels in History in Education.
    • Managing teaching and learning processes for the distance as well as on-campus mode of delivery.
    • Publish articles and book chapters, as well as presenting papers at conferences.
    • Engage in community outreach/implementation of expertise.
    • Programme and curriculum development of new under and postgraduate level degrees, diplomas, and certificates as well as short learning programs in History in Education.
    • Knowledge and competence of integrating ICT platforms in teaching and learning Supervision of Masters’ and Doctoral students.
    • Supervision of Masters’ and Doctoral students.
    • Voluntarily participate in curriculum-related community engagement.
    • Commitment towards initiating and expanding research in the History in Education subject group.

    Minimum requirements

    SENIOR LECTURER

    • Ph.D. in History in Education
    • Minimum of 5 years experience in undergraduate (Bachelor’s Degree) and postgraduate (Honours and Master’s Degree) teaching in History in Education is essential.
    • Research publications in accredited journals on History in Education is a requisite.
    • Evidence of supervision of a Masters’ student to completion students in History in Education is essential.

    LECTURER

    • MEd in History in Education OR MA (History) accompanied by a relevant education qualification such as PGCE or any other OR MEd Curriculum Studies and any History Qualification.
    • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in history education subject content at secondary school or tertiary institution level.

    Recommended competencies:

    • Registering for, and completing Ph.D. - studies within a reasonable period.
    • Commit towards furthering own scholarship in research.

    Other competency requirements:

    • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) Analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Effective time-management skills.
    • Computer literacy (MS office, knowledgeable about cloud storage).
    • Experience in teaching and learning material development.
    • Competent in the use of a variety of teaching, learning, and assessment methodologies.
    • Excellent communication skills.

    • Ability to teach large classes in both contact and distance mode.
    • Conducting research.
    • Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.
