    Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer in Drama ( Interdisciplinary Performance Praxis)

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The successful candidate will be required to:

    • Provide theoretical and practical teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in at least two of the following areas: Writing, Performance, Digital Media, Directing and Theatre-Making, Scenography, and Drama and Film Studies.
    • Undertake academic administration and other duties as determined by the Departmental Chair and/or the Head of the School of the Arts. 
    • Be involved in module and curriculum development.
    • Contribute creative research outputs and scholarly publications.
    • Supervise creative projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
    • Supervise postgraduate research at the appropriate level.
    • Participate in the School of the Arts’ and the Department’s strategic initiatives relating to teaching, research, and community engagement.
    • Liaise with relevant stakeholders within and outside the Faculty of Humanities.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    LECTURER

    • A Master’s degree in Drama/Theatre/Performance Studies, or a related field;
    • A portfolio of professional creative work;
    • Accredited research outputs appropriate to the post level
    • The equivalent of two (2) years of tertiary teaching or tutoring experience. This may include block and/or temporary teaching.

    SENIOR LECTURER: 

    • A Doctoral degree in Drama/Theatre/Performance Studies, or a related field;
    • A portfolio of professional creative work;
    • At least five (5) years of tertiary teaching experience;
    • Evidence of successful design and implementation of courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels;  
    • Proven supervision to completion of at least two (2) master’s students;
    • Accredited research outputs (publications, conference papers) appropriate to the post level 

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • In-depth theoretical and experiential knowledge of interdisciplinary performance praxis 
    • Appropriate skills to conceptualise and initiate radical futures of performance in the arts and humanities 
    • Appropriate skills to engage with artistic research methodologies
    • Appropriate language and communication skills
    • Appropriate computer skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Appropriate professional experience
    • Administrative competence
    • A strong work ethic

    ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

    LECTURER:

    • Three years’ appropriate teaching experience at tertiary level
    • A PhD in Drama/Theatre/Performance studies, or a related field
    • Experience in supervising creative work at postgraduate level
    • Experience in postgraduate research supervision
    • Experience in artistic inter- and trans-disciplinary research methodologies

    SENIOR LECTURER:

    • Experience in postgraduate supervision at doctoral level
    • Advanced training in embodied performance pedagogies (such as but not limited to Lessac Kinesensics or Laban/Bartenieff Movement Studies)
    • Experience in inter- and transdisciplinary curriculum development 
    • Experience in academic administration
    • A professional award for creative work
