    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer - Department of Public Law - Faculty of Law - 25009

    Responsibilities
    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    Teaching in and coordinating the following modules offered by the Department of Public Law at both undergraduate and postgraduate level:

    • Environmental Law; and
    • Extractive Industry Law in Africa;
    • Conducting academic scholarly research;
    • Engaging with the community through teaching, supervision and research that is embedded in and responsive to the African and South African social context;
    • Having an in-depth understanding of own area of specialisation to enable development of new knowledge, innovation and understanding within the field;
    • Supervising masters and doctoral students;
    • Mentoring students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
    • Academic administration and management;
    • Performing other duties as delegated by Head of the Department.

    Lecturer

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • LLM (preferably by full dissertation) in the discipline of Environmental Law and Extractive Industry Law in Africa;
    • Evidence of community engagement being embedded in the candidate's research and/or teaching;
    • Relevant tertiary teaching experience;
    • At least two accredited publications in the last three years.

    Senior Lecturer

    • LLD/PhD degree in one of the abovementioned fields or related fields;
    • At least five years’ tertiary teaching experience;
    • At least eight accredited publications in peer-reviewed journals of which three should have been published in the three years preceding the year of application;
    • Conference papers delivered;
    • Evidence of successful supervision of at least two research master’s degrees or four coursework master’s mini-dissertations will be a strong recommendation;
    • Evidence of community engagement;
    • Proven record of academic administration and academic citizenship.

    Required Competencies (skills, Knowledge, And Behavioural Attributes)

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team;
    • Good communication skills.
    • Participation in academic conferences, seminars, and workshops.
    • Ability to plan and initiate discipline-related research.

    Added Advantages And Preferences

    • Demonstrable subject expertise and interest in the following area related to public law:
    • International Environmental Law.
