    Lecturer: Life Science Education/Natural Sciences, Dept. of Intermediate Phase Teaching, Faculty of Education

    Job Purpose

    •  Lecturing in the Intermediate (and Foundation) Phase Departments: Life Science Education/Natural Sciences. 

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • A relevant Masters’ degree in Education 
    • A relevant teaching qualification
    • Life Science/Natural Science as a major at undergraduate level
    • At least two (2) relevant teaching experience at tertiary level or five (5) years’ recent relevant experience in teaching Life Science/Natural Science at school level
    • Knowledge, understanding and experience in the preparation and evaluation of meaningful teaching experiences for Intermediate phase students
    • Experience and knowledge of support and differentiated teaching for learners experiencing barriers to learning related to Life Science/Natural Sciences

    Recommendations:

    • A relevant Doctoral degree
    • Relevant research output
    • Knowledge and understanding of CAPS in the Intermediate Phase
    • Knowledge and understanding of the importance and challenges of Intermediate Phase teaching in the 21st century
    • Solid grounding in the subject (Life Science/Natural Science Education) as well as the teaching methodologies
    • Experience in the planning, designing and editing of teaching and learning materials (including electronic)
    • Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
    • Teaching in the Intermediate (and Foundation) Phases
    • Administrating, supervising and evaluating teaching experiences
    • Life Science learning support for and in multilingual classrooms
    • Academic administration
    • Curriculum development and other learning material
    • Conducting research in Life Science Learning and Teaching
    • Community engagement
    • Conducting Research
    • Assessment and Quality assurance
    • Networking with schools and other partners
    • Personal and professional development
    • Evaluating Students on Teaching Practice in Schools
    • Ability to align yourself to hybrid teaching and learning models (face-to-face and on-line learning)
    • Perform other functions as may be assigned by the head of department
