    Lead Data Engineer

    Accountability:

    • Lead the definition and execution of our data architecture and data operating model, the role position exists primarily to provide direction, mentorship, and oversight to a team of data engineers, DataOps engineers and architects. As technology becomes more advanced and data-driven decisions become essential, this lead will steer the direction of data strategy, ensuring that it aligns with the overall business objectives.
    • Monitor operational backbone performance & identify data optimisation opportunities, and Liaison with IT and OT asset areas to organise data extraction, migration cleaning and transformation and availability, the role plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the company's data assets are not only effectively managed but also strategically utilized. By actively liaising with key stakeholders and SMEs, they ensure that data solutions are in sync with business needs.
    • Develop and deploy a data architecture roadmap aligned to achieve an organisational single source of truth and provide guidance & expertise in the creation of tactical data architectures and virtualisations to secure and deploy digital products across assets.

    Qualifications & Skill Requirements:

    • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related business discipline
    • MBA/MIS or Tertiary qualification desirable
    • Agile Certification
    • Lean Six Sigma Certification desirable
    • Project Management Certification desirable

    Work Experience:

    •  +12 years’ experience in operations or project management in a technology industry or area  
    •  5-7 years of experience in crafting or manipulating data sets and building data architectures 
    • Experience and understanding of agile methodologies for project delivery
    • Experience in change management by using digital tools and products
    • Experience managing data integration to facilitate root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Experience implementing data governance programs
    • Experience in big data architectures, cloud and on-prem infrastructure management
    • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
    • Experience in industrial Operational Technology or Mining/Industrial processes is a plus
    • Experience in digital project studies, finance, technology strategy development and execution 
    • Background or experience in continuous improvement or change programs

    General Accountability:

    • Maintain, formulate, establish, and implement an organization-wide data engineering framework, including policies, controls, procedures, and risks management to achieve data operating excellence aligned with the Copper Management System development.
    • Analyse the current business, data environments, accountable for monitoring and controlling the portfolio of data management initiatives worldwide, ensuring consistency and alignment with strategic objectives.
    • Oversee the strategic and tactical data architectures, accountable for enabling and supporting the development and maintenance of a strategic data architecture, ensuring it meets both current and future business requirements.
    • Implement processes to improve data accuracy, consistency, and completeness in all business units.
    • Business Intelligence Program Delivery, accountable for the successful delivery and ongoing support of the business intelligence program, ensuring actionable insights for decision-making and monitoring.
    • Advanced Analytics Program Support, accountable for the successful delivery and ongoing support of the advanced analytics program, ensuring efficient data architectures and ETLs.
    • Optimization of Data Infrastructure ROI, accountable for identifying, initiating, and managing data projects that increase the return on investment in data infrastructure.
    • Digital Projects Oversight: Collaborate with IT/OT, IS and data architects to ensure that data structures support compliance with data governance policies and successfully delivery of data pipelines.
    • Frame and oversee changes to data systems, data, and enterprise architectures to ensure alignment with governance principles and business strategy.
    • Internal and external stakeholder alignment, coordination, and cooperation to deliver data architecture and data engineering expertise across the Copper business. 
    • Envision and architect cloud and edge data infrastructure that not only meets current requirements but is also scalable for future needs.
    • Identify, coordinate, and engage data owners, data stewards and internal partners to drive data architecture and integration outcomes.
    • Define clear objectives, milestones, and actionable steps to enhance data architecture maturity and effectiveness.
    • Define and influence assets to build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources.
    • Assist in the implementation of standards and controls for the internal team.
    • Engagement of consultants for works initiatives including preparation of scopes, tendering, assessment, and award processes.
    • Support regional technology leads in the development of LATAM, AFRICA and NACAP technology roadmaps, from concept through to feasibility. 
    • Management of consultant activities on a day-to-day basis
