Lead Commercial Manager at Murray & Roberts

Introduction

• Murray & Roberts Cementation invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Lead Commercial Manager to be placed in Bedfordview, Gauteng. The successful candidate will report to the Finance Director. The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates. Applications only open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.

Job description
      The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

• Effectively resource, lead, performance manage, train and coach the commercial team
• Draft and deliver contracts, tenders, insurances which comply with M&R Group and M&RC contracting principles, limits of authority and risk committee mandate
• Provide expert opinion on entitlement claims and contract law advice to project teams
• Timeous and sound commercial clarifications provided on tenders resulting in timeous tender submissions
• Negotiate contracts, claims, settlements, possibility of new work and change of scope with clients
• Lead and engage in any dispute resolution process
• Provide training to the organisation on specific adhoc legal, commercial and compliance issues, including project specific commercial training to the project team

Minimum requirements
Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

• 4 year LLB or similar (essential)
• Admitted attorney (preferred)
• Microsoft Office Proficient
• Exposure to SharePoint (advantageous)
• Valid driver’s licence
• Enablement and leadership skills
• Performance and service driven
• Excellent analytical, planning and organizing skills
• Sound logical reasoning, judgment and decision making skills
• Strong work ethic with excellent business acumen, legal drafting and negotiating skills
• Ability to cope with pressures and setbacks
• Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, with ability to resolve conflict and facilitate understanding at all levels

 
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

•        Minimum 8 years of commercial legal experience
•        Experience in mining, engineering or construction environment (preferred)
•        Experience leading a commercial team
•        Specialist understanding of contracts and commercial law
•        Expert legal knowledge including dispute resolution, service level agreement, joint ventures and lease agreements
•        Sound understanding of FIDIC and NEC contracts
