    Junior Specialist: Payment Operations

    Job Summary

    To provide specialist payment and operations expertise in Commercial Payments, ensuring activities are fulfilled in adherence to relevant control and compliance requirements, and quality standards as set out in relevant Absa Policies and Standards and required by the Payment Schemes and PASA. This includes:

    • PCI DSS compliance
    • Interbank Initiatives, Payment Governance, Advisory Services and Reporting
    • Contribute on operational change and efficiency programs
    • Continuously identify and give input on ways to improve operations in the business
    • Perform required administrative duties, including tracking and reporting
    • Support operational matters between Regulatory, Absa and System Operators that service Absa clients

    Job Description

    Accountability: PCI DSS

    • Comply with all PCI submissions and reporting required from PASA or Schemes.
    • Review PCI submissions.
    • Ensure PCI DSS support and advice on PCI DSS compliance requirements.
    • Assist in submissions required for non-Compliance issuers.

    Interbank Initiatives, Payment Governance, Advisory Service & Reporting

    • Attend and represent Absa at relevant PASA regulatory forums and meetings on behalf of Acquiring.
    • Comply with all reporting required from PASA or SARB.
    • Review TPPP list on an annual basis.
    • Provide ongoing feedback on ad-hoc basis with regards to Absa TPPPs and Payment Facilitators.
    • Obtain input on any requests for reporting to PASA/SARB (TPPPs, Payment Facilitators, etc.).
    • Provide input into House Views.
    • Ensure regulatory support and advice to Acquiring.
    • Regular (monthly) meetings with business units, legal, compliance and risk to provide feedback on PASA developments, new project, new rules, new policies etc.
    • Compile strategy proposals for Acquiring business with regards to new developments in Payments e.g. QR Codes
    • Assist in submissions required for non-Compliance issuers e.g. PCI, extension requests for compliance dates for certain projects.

    Accountability: Specialist expertise and support

    • Be familiar with all Schemes and Payment Association of South Africa (PASA) requirements pertaining to Acquiring and be able to give expert advice to clients and internal support functions.
    • Ensure that the support functions perform the required tasks in accordance with Absa Standards and Payment Schemes Standards.
    • Be familiar with Acquiring specific requirements as defined and updated by MasterCard, VISA and PASA from time to time.
    • Be able to give expert advice to internal support teams.

    Accountability: Administration:

    • Ensure that all progress updates on projects and scheme bulletins are submitted timeously.
    • Ensure that project and scheme compliance reviews where required are carried out timeously with all clients.

    Accountability: Compliance and Risk Management:

    • Card Schemes Monitoring programs: drive compliance on identified potential non-compliance issues.
    • Ensure that relevant critical process assessments are completed and reviewed annually, with associated risks and controls mapped and documented.
    • Operational Risk issues- ensure that all identified issues are correctly reported and captured on ORMS.
    • Demonstrate sound judgement and appropriate and timely escalations in the management of all types of risk applicable within the role.
    • Include legal, compliance and risk in obtaining feedback/input before responding on requests from SARB/PASA.
    • Include risk, compliance and legal in responses with regards to non-compliance findings against Absa Acquiring.

    Accountability: Change programmes (BOW)

    • Ensure that all PASA and Schemes changes being implemented are supported in terms of a regulatory and advisory perspective.

    Accountability: Continuous improvement

    • Continuously review documented processes and procedures and ensure process gaps are corrected and changes made to drive efficiency.
