    Junior Grain Trader

    Description

    • Assist and support the physical trading and marketing of Agri JSE Listed Soft Commodities.

    Requirements

    REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/TRAINING    

    • B Com or BSC or equivalent qualification

    REQUIRED MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE            

    • 1-year experience as a Grain Trader or experience in grain logistics would be an added advantage
    • Exposure to contract administration and SAFEX trades

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS         

    • Identify grain marketing opportunities both in the spot market as well as on a preseason basis, which incorporates supply and demand analysis and arbitration potential.
    • Develop professional relationships with a portfolio of agricultural customers by providing sound and proactive grain marketing strategies, taking into account customer needs, profitability, market information and risk. 
    • Develop and utilise internal and external networks with specialised areas (Safex desk, agricultural advisors, credit agricultural department and farmers associations) to engage support and effectively.
    • Assist with the implementation of the grain marketing strategy and the facilitation of physical transactions in the pre-season grain market and spot grain market.
    • Assist with grain price management by observing bids (mandates) from off-takers and managing day-to-day marketing.
    • Responsible for giving presentations and seminars to customers in order to retain or gain new business.
    • Market maize, sunflower, soybeans and wheat to existing customers.
    • Monitor sales targets and plan marketing initiatives in line with the business unit.
    • Monitor the agricultural market in the area in terms of climatic conditions and competitor activity to understand each client's potential and risk profile.  .
    • Monitor the customer crops by performing regular crop estimates and reporting on customer exposures that could place the company at risk.
    • Analyse and advice on market expectations to ensure the growth of the business.

    TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/ COMPETENCIES          

    • Working knowledge of the Agricultural Industry
    • Working knowledge of grain marketing
    • Understanding SAFEX operation and risks
    • Understanding of the grain supply chain
    • Good working knowledge of contracts and related legal terms
    • Good driving skills
    • Good presentation skills
    • Valid drivers license
