    Human Rights Ambassador - Johannesburg

    Key duties and responsibilities

    Facilitate Programme Support

    • Facilitate community dialogues related to Human Rights and Human rights violations of key and vulnerable populations i.e. People Who Use Drugs (PWUD).
    • Provide support to victims and encourage reporting to minimize human rights violations.
    • Distribute Information, Education and Communications (IEC) materials on human rights to the key and vulnerable populations, community-based organisations (CBO’s)and other relevant networks.
    • Refer and closely follow up reported cases to law clinics and other human rights referral agencies.
    • Participate in community-based monitoring activities.
    • Document beneficiary testimonies to encourage other victims to speak out.

    Administration and Reporting

    • Documenting human rights reported for abuses and violations.
    • Record and compile monthly beneficiary testimony reports.
    • Provide narrative reports and recommended corrective action.

    Stakeholder Engagement

    • Attend relevant district level stakeholder meetings.
    • Participate in district level human-rights hubs. 

     Minimum qualifications, experience and skills required.

    • Grade 12 Certificate.
    • Qualification in Social Auxiliary or relevant will be an added advantage.
    • Knowledge of DoH HTS guidelines & protocols.
    • 1 year experience working as a human rights advocate.
    • Must be able to work independently and in a team.
    • Willing to travel to various communities as and when required.
    • Previously worked with key populations, especially PWUD Community.
    • Experience working in HIV/AIDS environment.
    • Have experience in advocating for human rights of key populations.
    • Experience working with various stakeholders such SAPS, SASSA and Department of Justice, CBO’s or other relevant stakeholders.
    • Computer literacy.
    • Ability to use tablets for data collection.
    • Experience in administering research questionnaires.
    • Positive attitude and sensitive to working with people who inject drugs.
    • Good Report writing skills.
    • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Good oral and written communication skills.
    • Strong organizational skills, including task and time management, ability to multi-task, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and work without supervision.
