Graduate Technologist/Technologist - Eastern Cape at SMEC

The Key responsibilities for this role are to:

• Maintain records of site administration and communication in terms of the company`s quality management system and Construction Manual
• Attend and contribute to taking minutes at technical and site meetings with contractor and client`s Project Manager
• Awareness of time and cost implications on projects
• Construction administration and monitoring
• Inspection of the works and test results for the quality control
• Ensuring the contractor follows specifications
• Regular client contacts without Senior Managers
• Undertake technical feasibility studies and site investigations
• Ensure projects are documented within the guidelines of the supervisor
• Can make good decisions on own initiative
• Query details suggesting more acceptable solutions
• Draft project progress reports and technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational quality on multi-disciplinary projects
• Able to present / represent his/her specific technical work (presentations / meetings)
• Awareness of relevant software tools
• Ensure that design specs/other problems that may have relevance to future designs are brought to the attention of the relevant personnel
• Measurement of the works
• Willingness to grow in producing efficient, high-quality detail drawings
• Develop increased design ability and quality

Recommended Qualifications, Skills and Experience  

• BEng Tech or BTech degree from accredited university/college
• 3 – 5 years’ experience
• Effective teamwork and communication skills in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment
• Understands the principles of the design process and how design is translated into deliverables through the use of software tools
• Understands the key project issues and how these influence his/her work
• Proficiency in designing, draughting and detailing of Civil Work
• Good software tool understanding
• Candidate registration with ECSA or SACPCMP will be an advantage
