    Gender Based Violence (GBV) Ambassador

    Job Description
    The duties and responsibilities of the Gender Based Violence (GBV) Ambassador will include, but not limited to:

    • Engage at community level, coordinate daily awareness raising sessions and provide sufficient information on GBV services.
    • Map out community structures and identify hotspots around health facilities and clinics.
    • Participate in community engagement sessions and create awareness on gender-based violence through health talks, awareness programmes, workshops or educational sessions in collaboration with response team and/or other service providers
    • Implement dialogues at local schools and capacitate the Learner Support Agents by providing training on gender-based violence.
    • Provide support to individuals with health seeking behaviors through linkages and referrals to service points.
    • Support community tracing of survivors for linkage to follow up services
    • Ensure good working relationships are maintained with all stakeholders at Department of Health facilities and local communities
    • Maintain relationships with stakeholders through attendance at intersectoral meetings
    • Perform irregular, one time and special request tasks related to the department as a whole.

    Requirements

    Required qualifications, skills, and experience.

    • Matric certificate or equivalent NQF qualification.
    • A minimum of 2 years working in the community supporting HIV related programmes
    • An understanding and background of the local community dynamics, socio-cultural practices, community gatekeepers, social influencers and community hotspot areas.
    • Ability to work independently but contribute to the district goals and outcomes
    • Ability to work within a team, network and engage the community
    • Knowledge of gender-based violence and the local context of the community.
    • Previous working experience in an NGO/NPO field will be advantageous
    • Be fully conversant in spoken and written English and 1 other South African language with the ability to communicate at ease at all levels
    • Valid driver’s license and own vehicle will be advantageous

    • Show sensitivity to cultural norms and practice
    • Have the ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of individuals
    • Good knowledge of the area
