    Food Safety Intern

    Minimum Requirements

    • Matric certificate required.
    • Tertiary qualification or short course certificates in food safety advantageous.
    • Minimum 2 years of experience in retail.
    • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene policies (e.g., FDCA, HACCP, PAS96, PRP).
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Computer literate and deadline-driven.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Policy and Procedure Support:

    • Assist in reviewing and implementing food safety policies and procedures.
    • Conduct research on legislation and assist in policy submissions.
    • Provide training on policies, food safety customer care, and investigations.

    External Relationships:

    • Liaise with external parties regarding food safety and hygiene reports.

    Risk Management:

    • Identify and evaluate food safety risks and regulatory changes.
    • Assist in documenting risk profiles and HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment) documents.

    Administrative Support:

    • Assist in compiling reports and fulfilling administrative requirements for the Food Safety Manager.

    Compliance Improvement:

    • Review operational self-inspections and third-party audits.
    • Follow up on corrective actions and attend operational meetings to ensure compliance.
    • Schedule and manage food safety training across all levels.

    Incident Management:

    • Assist in handling food-related customer complaints and incident reports.
    • Compile and implement corrective action plans and liaise with relevant stakeholders.

    Data Management:

    • Assist in managing data for the food safety management system.
    • Ensure accuracy and completeness of input and output data.
    • Conduct food safety inspections as required.

    Teamwork and Professional Development:

    • Provide hands-on training for new food safety team members.
    • Manage workflow efficiently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
    • Foster a cooperative work environment and resolve conflicts effectively.
