    Food Safety & Analytical Specialist

    The Key purpose of this role is to Define, develop and audit food safety systems standards and work practices to ensure compliance to product safety based on global policies for Africa Zone. Define, develop, support all analytical chemistry and good laboratory practice requirements across all laboratories in Africa Zone.

    Key Roles & Responsibilities (Food Safety):

    • Develop and provide training for food safety and quality requirements to Regional Quality Assurance Mangers
    • Validate all HACCP plans for all facilities in Africa
    • Develop and maintain documentation such as SOP’s, as well as maintenance of manuals, policies and procedures as relate to any food safety concerns
    • Ensure effective monitoring of all CCPs
    • Ensure verification and validation is in place for all CCPs
    • Conduct facility food safety audits as well as manage third party audits
    • Ensure Legal requirements are adhered to in all operations
    • Monitor and verify activities to ensure that all products coming in and out of the facility meet food safety standards in addition to quality standards
    • Update existing food safety procedures and documentation to keep up with changing global  requirements
    • Assist buyers with training and educating potential suppliers to ensure compliance
    • Oversee proper maintenance and sanitation of all facility to comply with food safety requirements
    • Ensure that all company food safety and quality assurance procedures are followed and documented correctly at all times
    • Support Regional Quality Assurance Managers in developing GMP action plans and CAPEX requirements to improve overall site GMP for all sites in Africa
    • Accountable for due diligence test programme implementation
    • Drive closure of gaps for non-conformances in due diligence 
    • Ensure legal and mandatory requirements for food safety are maintaining in all countries via legal registers
    • Ensure analytical capabilities and strategies meets existing and future business needs.
    • Good understanding of analytical instrument and technologies to advise the business on the correct equipment to source
    • Depth understanding of the principles of analytical instrument, trouble shooting and training ( GC, HPLC, ICP, Gallery Beer master etc.)
    • Good understanding and application of analytical methods for both breweries and maltings
    • Ability to interpret complex analytical data and advise the business
    • Sound knowledge of analytical method development ( Accuracy, precision, recovery test etc.)
    • Ability to train, audit and run methods in the lab and generate the results
    • Sound knowledge of chemistry and chemical analysis
    • SME on GC, HPLC and lab process.
    • Knowledge of validation system ( BWC/MAC/BAPS/MAPS/DAPS, Gage R&R, verification routines)
    • Develop BWC sampling plan and ensure all process are followed including statistical analysis and reporting
    • Management of due diligence and ensure the results are interpreted correctly and lead problem solving
    • Write and present scientific reports relevant teams.
    • Must have extensive knowledge of ISO 17025 accreditation
    • Collaborate with L&D to define training needs and train delegates on advanced analytical instruments.

    Profile:

    • BSc or BTech degree
    • Excellent knowledge of food industry rules and regulations 
    • Strong technical skills in identify adulteration in goods 
    • Experience in investigating complaints of food products 
    • Familiarity with food production, customer service, hygiene, fire, and health regulations 
    • Ability to use accounting software, databases, and inventory management software 
    • Excellent presentation, report drafting, and problem-solving skills 
    • Subject matter expertise in food safety
    • Knowledge of brewing, quality and packaging management systems and processes
    • Ideal candidate would have experience in quality systems and have worked in middle/ senior management roles
