    Farm Manager - Laying

    Job Advert Summary    

    • We are looking for an experienced Farm Manager - Laying to join our Agri Team (Opti Breeders Boschpoort). The successful candidate will lead a team to ensure proper execution of the laying  duties within the department.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • A degree in Agriculture or relevant qualification
    • A minimum of 5 years experience in a management role within the broiler breeder sphere. 
    • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint & Word). – IT skills are essential alongside the capability to analyse operational reports, monitoring compliance with policies and procedures.
    • A good understanding of modern farming methods, a commitment to animal welfare and an interest in, and understanding of, the ways in which farming impacts the environment.
    • Proficiency in English is essential in this position.
    • Valid Driver’s license & own transportation.
    • Strong analytical skills relating to breeder technical aspects.

    Duties and Responsibilities    

    • Ensure all livestock is treated humanely, and in compliance with company standards.
    • Couch employees to help them develop a clear understanding of the requirement relating to Animal Welfare, Food Safety and Quality Standards and 
    • Involve the team by encouragement and motivating to deliver safety excellence and promote risk awareness by getting involved and following safety rules and identifying risks.
    • Drive improvement in the perfromance standards for uniformity of the flock, point of lay cost (POLC), health and animal welfare (up to 21 weeks).
    • Conduct post moterms and report findings to the senior area ops manager and group veterinarian.
    • Record and monitor weekly husbandry parameters.
    • Reduce turnover and ensure labour cost base is the most productive, efficient and cost competitive for the industry.
    • Manage, monitor and keep within budget, seeking approval for out of scope spend.
    • Attending to HR/IR matters (i.e. planning leave, time sheets, disciplinary measures)
