Environmental and Social Risk Specialist at AMSCO

Job Mission / Objective

The Environmental and Social Risk Specialist (Level 2) is responsible for building the Banks impact in sustainability through ESG standards – the Environmental and Social (E&S) Performance Standards and the Corporate Governance Methodology – and to encourage the effective adoption of these standards by companies and investors across the emerging markets.

The Environmental and Social Risk Specialist works with client companies and mobilize technical and financial support to address environmental and/or social aspects of clients’ operations. The role requires oversight of key risks, stakeholders, and tasks in respect the ESS. The environmental and Social Risk Specialist is an independent risk assessor who does not have the role of managing or mitigating the risk but must have oversight, monitor, report, and advice on any risks identified

Main Responsibilities

Strategic Partnership, Communication, Liaison and Training (35%)

• Partner with market-facing staff on the need to ensure that all credits with inherently high environmental and social risks meets the approved environmental and social action plan before approval and disbursement.
• Partnering with EBS and sustainability team in the pursuit and implementation of measures geared to reduce the Bank’s carbon footprint.
• Conscientious and timely report on relevant obligors’ E&S performance and development on Environmental and Social Risk Management Systems.
• Circulation of newsletter/datasheets on trending issues in the environmental and social risk management space.

Development, oversight, and management (30%)

• Build capability to achieve excellent audit report from the Bank’s DFI partners in terms of E&S risk governance system for attracting and monitoring green funds.
• Monitor that service levels, procedures and processes are being adhered to.

Reporting, Administration, and meeting Attendance (30%)

• Provide an independent risk view to the CRO regarding the BU’s progress and compliance with the ESS Standards.
• Efficient monitoring of the Bank’s carbon footprint with the aim of a 10% reduction YOY.
• Provide periodic report on E&S monitoring to Management, DFIs etc.
• Prompt submission of all regulatory reports to the CBN
• Efficient reporting on the use of Green Bond proceeds.
• Implements appropriate risk reporting to the CRO and BU Head within the template as designed.
• Attendance of relevant Bus meetings to identify risks or weaknesses in controls.
• Monitoring and reporting in terms of ESS with the business units and CRO.

Business Forums(5%)

• Attendance of relevant Industry Forums as required.      

Business Planning / Decision Making

• Development of ESS risk culture within the BU.      

Policies and Procedures

• Ensure periodic but timely update of Access Bank’s Environmental and Social Risk.
• Management policy, processes, and procedures in line prevailing global standards amendments and/or current regulatory amendments.
• Enhance the full implementation of the Access Bank Group Environmental and Social.
• Risk Management Manual.

Job Requirements 

Academic Knowledge

• B Comm/BSc or Law Degree.

Work Experience

• Minimum 5yrs ESS Risk Experience
• Minimum 7yrs Bank experiencer Law Degree.
