    Engineering Technician - FAEL

    Job description

    • Perform all relevant maintenance activities on equipment and systems as per the relevant Logistic Support Plan, station instructions and equipment manufacturer recommendations. 
    • Co-ordinate and manage that maintenance to buildings at the sites, the site itself such as roads, grass cutting, fencing, antenna masts, terrestrial communications and power from point of supply is maintained to ATNS standards.
    • Compliance to Service Level Agreements (SLA’s)
    • Ensure that the relevant equipment competences are maintained and current as per station requirements and the appropriate Skills Matrix
    •    Perform “I” Level corrective fault diagnosis down to module (LRU) level.
    •    Perform “I” Level corrective maintenance through module (LRU) replacement
    • Perform “O” Level restoration of service by reconfiguration and/or changeover by means of supervisor positions and remote control, monitoring and maintenance systems. (RCMMS)
    • Perform “D” Level corrective maintenance where applicable as per ATNS support policy.
    • Compliance within SLA’s
    • Undertake supervision of Junior Technicians
    • Provides on the job training to Junior Technicians
    • Ensures the work of Junior Technicians adheres to SLA’s
    • O” Level system performance and analysis by means of supervisor positions and remote control, monitoring and maintenance systems. (RCMMS)
    • ”I” Level system performance and analysis through the use of specialized test, monitoring and B.I.T.E equipment
    • Performance analysis using the relevant MMIS and other Computer Based Maintenance Management Systems (MMS)
    • Compile technical reports on systems and equipment as requested and proactively when the need arises.
    • Work within the SLA framework.

    • Capture all relevant data on the MMS
    • Compliance with RT procedures
    • Compliance with Airport Regulations
    • Understand the impact of equipment availability on the national ATM service delivery
    • Assist BD and Projects department
    •    Comply with ATNS Quality Management Systems.
    •    Comply with SACAA CATS and CARS
    •    Comply with ICAO recommendations
    •    Comply with the ATNS OH&S plan
    •    Comply with ATNS recommended practices as it relates to I level maintenance (how do we highlight the risk to ATNS and industry if an ET made a mistake as part of performing his maintenance) (impact on aviation safety)
    • Comply with RT procedures
    • Comply with Airport Regulations
    • Comply with station stores procedures
    • Comply with equipment LSP stores procedures
    • Become proficient in the “O” level support of all Communications, Navigation and Surveillance systems and Equipment at your centre.
    • Become proficient in the “O” level support of all Support systems and equipment at your centre, which will include UPS’s, Air-conditioning, Stand-by power, Fire protection and Alarm systems where required as per the Station Standing Instructions.
    • Develop an understanding of and become proficient in RCMMS methods for the effective evaluation of system and equipment performance.
    • Become proficient in the use of specialized test, monitoring and B.I.T.E equipment.
    • Develop an understanding of testing methods for the effective evaluation of system and equipment performance.
    • Knowledge of all other applicable ATNS Centre and Shift, call-out and Itinerant requirements
    • Knowledge of all other FIR environments

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Grade 12
    • S4 National Diploma in Light Current Electronic Engineering granting admittance to ECSA as an Engineering Technician or Technologist
    • A valid South African motor vehicle driver’s license; preferably ACSA AVOP certified

    Minimum Experience

    • Minimum 4 years in CNS ATM equipment maintenance and thorough knowledge of the following:
    •  Electronics
    • Communication
    • Navigation
    • Surveillance
    • Display systems and equipment
    • Knowledge of Logistic Support Procedures
    • Knowledge in Preventative and Corrective maintenance of Communication
    • Navigation
    • Surveillance systems and equipment
    • Knowledge of Logistic Support Procedures
    • Be able to perform call-out functions independently as per station requirements
    • OH& Safety Requirements
    • Basic First Aid & Fire Fighting
    • Thorough understanding and Insight into ATC Operations
    • RT Procedures Airport Operations
    • Advanced Knowledge of Logistic Support Procedures
