Education & Qualification

• Relevant post-graduate degree(s) in Accounting and/or Chartered Accountant, or equivalent qualification.

General Knowledge & Experience

• 10 years in the mining industry and/ or associated business fields, and which should include corporate reporting/ financial accounting functions.
• Detailed understanding of complex commercial, accounting, and financial reporting issues (IFRS)
• Knowledge of US GAAP will be advantageous
• Financial Controlling – sets group-wide financial reporting standards, monitors adherence and ensures the integrity of financial outputs
• Sound Technical Accounting, Financial Reporting, International Reporting Standards and their application
• Experience with the accounting for large Corporate structures
• Experience of working with cross-functional and geographical teams with significant senior level engagement
• Managing high performance teams
• Governance and compliance skills – set organisational standards and processes around governance and compliance
• Experience in managing senior stakeholders
• Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on detail
• Project Management and Execution – has an understanding of the “bigger picture” and how this drives projects and business cases.

Role Accountabilities

• Design and govern standard group accounting policies, including accounting directives and non-GAAP reporting
• Advise on application and interpretation of technical accounting requirements in terms of IFRS and US GAAP
• Manage ad-hoc projects relating to the roll-out of new accounting standards
• Maintain models and templates to ensure compliance with IFRS and ensure standardisation in the Group (Impairment models, Rehabilitation models, Impairment Indicator Checklists)
• Responsible for providing IFRS and other technical accounting training to the business unit and group finance teams
• Participate in the implementation of US-GAAP reporting, changes to quarterly and annual reporting processes due to the change in primary listing, compliance with reporting requirements in the UK and future requirements from sustainability accounting and reporting
• Advise on once-off transactions (acquisitions/ disposals/ group restructuring/ new financing), including review of all regulatory filings and presentations
• Identify and implement new or changed disclosure requirements including annual revision of the IFRS financial reporting skeleton and the UK annual report
• Review of the Annual Financial Statements (from a disclosure perspective) and preparation of all technical notes in the Annual Financial Statements
• Responsible for preparation of the Earnings per Share and Headline Earnings Per Share calculations
• Maintain relationships with external auditors and manage the audit process relating to the AFS disclosure and technical accounting matters
• Support the SVP/VP: Group Controllership to address all ad-hoc regulatory comment letters received from SEC
• Provide World Gold Council (WGC) guidance framework implementation, review and monitor support to business units and sites
• Maintain the growth capital assessment and classification process and support business units and sites in this regard
• Maintain the exploration assessment and classification process and support business units and sites in this regard
• Audit and Risk Committee Papers relating to new accounting developments and pronouncements, SEC rules and other regulatory developments
• Manage the SOX control process within the Technical Reporting team
• Participate in year-end SOX meetings to assist in assessing all identified SOX deficiencies and possible impacts with the SOX and external audit teams
• Participation in combined assurance reviews on an ad-hoc basis.
