    Director: Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • An appropriate Doctoral qualification (with preferably a Full Professor or Associate Professor credentials)
    • At least 5 years management experience in the internationalization of higher education and research environment
    • Evidence and a proven track record of strategic planning leadership and the management of strategic projects and partnerships at the organizational level (locally and internationally) in support of Research and Innovation development in a higher education context
    • Demonstrable experience of the ability to network and interact with senior Industry, Government, non-profit, and University leaders nationally and internationally.

    RECOMENDATIONS

    • A sound understanding of strategic planning and implementation as it pertains to the Higher Education Research and Innovation environment.
    • A sound understanding of the Internationalization of Higher Education locally and globally.
    • An accomplished academic who has a sound understanding of both the management and practice of the research cycle, including that of research uptake
    • Evidence of research outputs, including post-graduate supervision, journal articles, technical reports etc.
    • Evidence of an international footprint (international partnership, networks and collaborations)
    • Demonstrable experience in planning, management and execution of institutional-level programmes in a higher education environment
    • An understanding of the University of Technology environment

    Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

    Internationalisation

    • Develop, implement and monitor the institution’s internationalization (Inter- and intra-nationalization) strategies and plans and extend CPUT’s international footprint.
    • Develop management and reporting process in line with the DHET Internationalization framework
    • Manage and coordinate staff and student exchange programmes
    • Manage and coordinate support programmes for registered international students and exchange students (inbound and outbound)
    • Manage and coordinate support programmes for staff exchanges
    • Manage international data and information systems

    Strategic Partnerships (national and international)

    • Identify, develop, and manage strategic partnerships with industry, government, other universities and research institutions that support the attainment of the CPUT and RTIP vision and strategy
    • Manage and coordinate the institutional Strategic partnerships and collaborations.
    • This will include building and actively supporting applied research and technology collaborations, as well as the facilitation of partnerships that lead to enhanced research and innovation productivity at CPUT.
    • Manage partnerships data and information systems

    Service and research uptake:

    • Conceptualize and develop strategic interventions and programmes which support the advancement of the RTI blueprint
    • Building a culture of service and appropriate systems to promote research uptake

    Directorate leadership

    • Build a culture of service and appropriate systems to promote internationalization, mutually beneficial partnerships and
    • research uptake.
    • Provide Human Resource Management of the Directorate (attract, retain and manage human resources to fulfil the requisite Directorate functions).
    • Assume all Financial management responsibilities of the Directorate.
    • Compile reports for all internal and external stakeholders.
    • Represent CPUT at stakeholder engagements
    • Develop a structure for funding internationalization activities and support through 3rd stream income initiatives.
