    Diesel Mechanic

    Job description

    Northam Eland Platinum Mine has an exciting opportunity for a Diesel Mechanic who will be responsible to provide specialist maintenance support to the mine for the achievement of production performance levels. The incumbent is responsible to conduct planned maintenance and attend to breakdowns in trackless mobile machinery. Guided by our purpose and values, we enable both high performance and purposeful action as we aim to promote ”Smart Platinum Mining ”, delivering on metals (PGMs) including platinum, rhodium, iridium, ruthenium and osmium.

    Qualifications 

    • NQF level 4 (National Senior Certificate or Grade 12 or Adult Senior Certificate) with English literacy or N2 in Engineering studies
    •  Completed formal Learnership programme prior to obtaining a Diesel Mechanic OR Hydraulic Fitter artisan trade certificate (Sect 13 or 26 D) as recognised by the MQA

    Experience

    • At least Three (3) years’ experience as a Diesel Mechanic in trackless mobile machinery (TMM) environment:
    •  Experience in maintenance of LHDs, Drill Rigs, Multi-Purpose Vehicles and Utility Vehicles will be advantageous

    Key performance areas

    • As our Diesel Mechanic some of your responsibilities will include but not limited to: 
    •  Safe, correct and effective application of equipment and machinery utilised during duties
    •  Ensure that all planned maintenance scheduled are performed timeously, accurately and according to required standards and specifications
    •  Attending to mechanical breakdowns within trackless mobile machinery
    •  Interpret diagnostic test results on machinery accurately
    •  Complete and conduct detailed inspection reports and repair plans
    •  Escalation of unresolved breakdowns or unsuccessful maintenance and installations
    •  Adherence to document control standards and procedures
    •  Complete and sign off the allocated work orders
    •  Ensure the safe and proper running of all machinery and equipment

    Additional requirements 

    • Must be willing to work shifts
    •  Medical Certificate of Fitness
    •  Valid drivers license with own transport
