Deputy Head (Disaster Management) at eThekwini Municipality

Job Purpose    

• Directs the key performance areas associated with the Disaster Management functionality through the design, development and alignment of policies, procedures, systems and controls guiding critical interventions.

Key Responsibility Areas    

• Formulates, aligns, seeks approval and implements critical objectives and, long and short term plans to guide the functioning and priorities of Disaster Management Department.
• Directs and controls the Key Performance Indicators and outcomes of personnel within the Disaster Management functionality.
• Prepares capital/ operating estimates and controls expenditure against the approved budget allocations.
• Manages and controls the implementation of plans, procedures, systems and controls associated with risk assessment and monitoring, Disaster Management planning, recovery and rehabilitation sequences and, education and awareness interventions.
• Directs operative requirements and procedures during potential and actual disasters.
• Participates in processes aimed at providing information, advice and guidance on Disaster Management.
• Manages the procedural administrative requirements and reporting deadlines.

Essential Requirements    

• Degree (NQF Level 7) in Disaster Management or Disaster Risk Management or any other related and equivalent qualification.
• Disaster Management Institute of Southern Africa (DMISA) Registration Professional.
• Valid motor vehicle driving license
• 8 years relevant experience in the field of Disaster (Risk) Management of which 3 years must be at a Senior Management level. 

Physical Requirements: 

• Physically fit and able bodied

Preferred Requirements    

• Postgraduate qualification (NQF Level 8) in Disaster Management or Disaster Risk Management or any other related and equivalent qualification.
• 9 years relevant experience in the field of Disaster (Risk) management of which 4 years must be at a Senior management level
