    Buyer

    The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

    • Drawing up and issuing of RFQs; completing commercial evaluations and making written recommendations
    • Placing and expediting of purchase orders with preferred suppliers and suppliers listed in the M&RC’s Approved Supplier Database
    • Verify purchases made are in accordance with procurement contracts
    • Conduct transactional procurement activities in accordance with best practice principles
    • Comply with Procurement policies and procedures
    • Liaise with contracts team to ensure that items frequently bought are added to an existing contract
    • Acceptable monthly lead time reporting
    • Proactive risk identification and mitigation
    • Effective teamwork and sound relationship with suppliers and cross-functional teams
    • Efficient administrative support to procurement team
    • Effective self-management and alignment with M&RC values and leadership initiatives 

    Minimum requirements

    Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent.
    • Certificate in Purchasing and Supply Management [NQF Level 6] or equivalent
    • Proficient in MS Office [Word, Excel]
    • Exposure to JD Edwards or similar ERP system advantageous
    • Ability to plan, organise and negotiate effectively
    • Ethical and high work standards
    • Sound Purchasing and office administration skills
    • Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate at all levels
    • Able to work as part of a team and independently
    • Good written and verbal English communication skills, including a good telephone manner

     Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

    • Minimum 3 years relevant experience preferably in an Industrial environment (mining, electrical or construction project environment)
    • Experience utilizing information systems, JD Edwards experience will be an added advantage
    • Sound knowledge and understanding of the Procurement process, including the life cycle of a project
    • Understanding of budgets and financial controls
    • Knowledge of relevant legislation and Procurement Policies and Procedures
