    Auto Electrician

    Job description

    The ideal candidate will install, maintain and repair electrical wiring and computer-based equipment in motor vehicles, tractors, trailers and agricultural equipment. Must be willing to work overtime and away from home.

    KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATOR

    • Inspect machines for faults and report on or repair faulty conditions.
    • Complete maintenance schedules and inspections.
    • Remove and install equipment where and when required.
    • Overhaul machines by stripping, examining, replacing and repairing faulty parts, then reassemble and replace overhauled machines.
    • Assist supervisor in maintaining equipment and machinery in a safe and operational condition according to McCain Loss Control and Maintenance Policies.
    • Maintain and service all workshop equipment to ensure maximum availability.
    • Commission new installations or alterations ensuring that it is operational and may be used safely.
    • Diagnose cause of breakdown and repair faults on site where possible.
    • Work in accordance to OHASA Act.work with computer-controlled engine management systems.
    • Install electrical equipment such as gauges, lighting, alternators and starter motors in all the equipment. Refer to circuit diagrams, and use meters and test instruments to find electrical faults Adjust engine control systems and timing to ensure vehicles are running at peak performance test, recondition and replace faulty alternators, generators, starter motors and related items such as voltage regulators and batteries Repair or replace faulty ignition, electrical wiring, fuses, lamps and switches Must be able to use hand tools.
    • A ssist with engineering projects as assigned. Solder or weld when repairing electrical parts.
    • Do mechanical work form time to time as required

    Requirements

    • Tertiary qualification (NQF 6) in Engineering.
    • 3-5 years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment preferably the Food or FMCG Industry.
    • Valid drivers license with no endorsements and clean accident record
    • Sound knowledge of the specific engineering trade.
    • The ability to manage and co-ordinate activities in a specific engineering disciplines to meet plant requirements.
    • The ability to provide engineering support and take corrective action to address production problems.
    • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing practices.
    • An innovative approach to problem solving and the ability to initiate action
    • Computer literate especially in MS Office, Windows, internet and SAP
