    Tax Accountant

    Job description

    6 Month Contract Role

    The Tax Accountant role will be involved with the completion of all the tax responsibilities of Old Mutual Investment Administrators (Pty) Ltd (‘OMIA’). The role involves:

    • Calculates and initiates payment of taxes.

    • Reviews tax payments.

    • Prepares monthly reports on all tax aspects.

    • Controls the production and distribution of IT3b, IT3c, IT3f and IT3s certificates and bi-annual returns to the tax authorities. Ensures tax certificates are issued.

    • Co-ordinates the production and distribution of IRP5 & IT3a tax certificates, along with the annual and bi-annual SITE and PAYE data submissions to the tax authorities.

    • Responsible for the completion and submission of Dividend Tax and Bi-annual Income Tax returns.

    • Replies to or provides input to tax queries received from SARS, and applications to SARS for Income Tax, PAYE and Dividend Tax rulings, with support from the tax consultant.

    • Keeps abreast of all tax legislation and changes and remuneration policies and practices. Aware of FATCA and Interest Withholding Tax developments in industry and able to interpret Income Tax legislation and Case Law.

    • Provides advice and guidance on minimising PAYE, Income and Dividend Tax liabilities.

    • Implements the strategy to minimise tax risk for the organisation.

    • Monitors Income Tax, PAYE and Dividend Tax compliance within business units on a monthly basis and reviews all statutory returns.

    • Assists with the development and implementation of corporate policy on Income, PAYE and Dividend Tax issues and processes

    • Performs data integrity checks on client tax data.

    • Accountable for reviews of Income, PAYE and Dividend Tax reconciliations, returns, compliance documents and replies to related queries from SARS.

    • Assists in development and implementation of tax systems planning opportunities for the organisation and ensures that all requirements e.g. data flows/reporting are met.

    • Assists in developing tax planning opportunities.

    • Prepares objections/ADRs.

    • Analyses transactions and new products from a tax point of view.

    • Advises on tax aspects of transactions and projects undertaken by the organisation.

    • Prepares tax budgets and forecasts for the business unit.

    • Determines correct accounting procedures for aspects of the company's flexible remuneration package relating to taxation.

    • Responsible for the production of accounting and taxation schedules.

    • Ensures tax allocations are completed and certificates are produced when required.

    • Produces automated tax returns.

    • Ensures tax certificates are issued.

    • Reviews and manages tax accounting processes.

    Key Result Areas

    • Interprets the Income Tax Act, FATCA legislation, PAYE and Case Law.

    • Assists in development and implementation of tax systems planning opportunities for the organisation and ensures that all requirements e.g. data flows/reporting are met.

    • Assists with the development and implementation of corporate policy on Income Tax, Withholding Tax, PAYE issues and processes.

    • Determines correct accounting procedures for aspects of the company's flexible remuneration package relating to taxation.

    • Aware of FATCA, Tax Free Saving Account and Interest Withholding Tax developments in industry

     

    Role Qualifications 

    • Commerce degree or equivalent diploma

    • Recently qualified CA

    • Solid understanding of Dividend Withholding Tax legislation

    • Experience in data submission of Dividend Tax, Income Tax and PAYE.

    • Working experience in the Unit Trust or LISP industry.

    • Experience in the administrative aspects of tax compliance.

    • Advantageous to have strong skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

    • Advantageous to have had exposure to projects and change management.

    • To be able to interpret tax legislation and SARS practice notes/requirements

    • Strong technical knowledge (tax, accounting & systems)

    • Good interpersonal skills

    • Co-ordination of multiple parties

    • Make sound commercial recommendations and decisions

    • Strong analytical, planning and information monitoring skills

    • Able to initiate action either independently or via a project team
