    Legal Advisor

    Job description

    CORE PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    Provide legal support to the company and all business Units.

    KEY OBJECTIVE

    To perform and effective and efficient Legal Advisor function to the company within the company policies and procedures and relevant legislation.

    DUTIES

    • Represent RMA during Tribunal hearing of section 91 objections.
    • Manage sections 56 and 90 cases in terms of COIDA.
    • Drafting of legal documents at the request of EXCO or business units.
    • Review and refer third party claims to attorneys for recoveries.
    • Provide regular reports on regulatory issue affecting RMA.
    • Draft department activity reports.
    • Liaise with attorneys regarding third party recoveries claims.
    • Provide professional written and well researched legal opinions and advice to all business units on request.
    • Instruct and draft briefing material for external legal service providers.
    • Manage all litigation for and against the company and liaise with attorneys and advocates.
    • Ensure recoveries of all fraud claims.
    • Draft and review company policies and product policies.
    • Represent the department at the Claims and Technical Committee meeting.
    • Assist the department with any other ad hoc legal matters.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • Legal Degree and admitted attorney/advocate.
    • Practical knowledge of applicable insurance and related legislation.
    • Ability to interface with clients and staff.
    • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
    • Good presentation skills and ability to interact with senior management.
    • Experience in drafting Legal documents.
    • EXPERIENCE (Minimum necessary before being considered for the Job)
    • 5-8 years working experience in the legal environment

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    • Valid driver’s license
    • Articulate and able to work with all levels of the company.
    • Able to work independently and under pressure.
    • High level of precision and attention to detail.
