    Wine Buyer

    Job description

    Applications are invited for the above- mentioned position to be based in the Grape and Wine Supply Department, Papegaaiberg. This person will report to the Wine Buying Manager.

    Purpose Of The Position

    To source, negotiate, contract, manage and evaluate the supply of bulk wine and related products for the group from a wide supply base, in line with leading global procurement and supplier management practices.

    Key Performance Areas would include, but are not limited to:

    • Supplying a technical extension service to produce the required style of wine and related products
    • Negotiating market–related prices
    • Contracting wines and related products
    • Judging on various tasting panels
    • Evaluating and grading of wine samples to ensure procurement within the required parameters
    • Evaluating suppliers performance and accreditations
    • Maintaining good working relationships between Distell and its suppliers
    • Performing various administrative duties

    The Successful Candidate Must Have The Following Experience/skills

    • A relevant BSc degree or qualification
    • Extensive knowledge of wine preparation and viticulture
    • Certificate in Wine Evaluation
    • A minimum of 5 years’ experience within the SA wine industry
    • Able to negotiate effectively
    • Good interpersonal skills
    • Be able to communicate at all levels
    • Computer literacy in MS Office Suite
    • Knowledge of Wine Procurement processes and systems (SAP system experience would be advantageous)
    • Be able to work independently and cope under pressure
    • A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel long distances
