This role is primarily responsible for negotiating and managing all aspects of commercial legal transactions within the Group and with external counter parties, managing legal risks within the whole Group, as well as providing guidance and advice to operating units in relation to commercial legal and regulatory matters.
Duties include:
- Providing legal opinions and legal advice and support to the Group on South African
law as well as International Law;
- Supporting Group acquisitions and divestments and restructuring
- Negotiating, drafting and implementing legal agreements
- Leading negotiation meetings
- Providing legal support to the commercial legal teams in operating units
- Providing guidance in respect of compliance with applicable legislation
- Managing legal risk across the Group
- Formulating contractual framework for strategic projects
- Facilitating dispute resolution
- Formulating and supporting litigation strategy
- Co-ordinating and supervising external counsel advice
This reports to the Group Chief Legal Counsel.
Role requirements:
You must be a qualified attorney (non negotiable) with at least 7 to 10 years' experience in commercial/corporate Law experience in a large local law firm or an international law firm which must include considerable exposure and participation in:
- Negotiations and drafting of highly complex transactions documents (locally and internationally)
- Multi-lingual transactions
