Santam Specialist Claims Services Has A Position Available For A Senior Claims Handler Who Will Be Based In Cape Town, Tygervalley Head Office.

The position requires the skills of a dynamic individual who has experience in Short Term Insurance, specifically in a Legal, Claims environment, as well as being fully competent in the third party indemnification process. The successful incumbent will be responsible for managing a portfolio of insured indemnity claims end to end and ensuring correct settlement application on these claims including the maintenance of appropriate service levels. The Senior Claims Handler will also be responsible for dealing with the escalation of matters from the insured indemnities team and attending to drafting of arguments for submission on arbitrations on more complex matters.

Key Responsibilities

The following accountabilities are applicable:

• Understanding of the inter-insurer SLA process;
• Attending to third party approaches when received;
• Conducting detailed investigation on the merits and quantum to establish negligence;
• Attending to escalations from other insurers and client queries where necessary;
• Drafting of submissions for arbitration purposes;
• Negotiation of settlement with third party insurers;
• Closure of claims.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications And Experience

• Law Degree;
• Additional Short term insurance-related qualifications will be an advantage; and
• Exposure and understanding of the Indemnity environment and process.

Knowledge

• Comprehensive short term procedural and practice knowledge (especially related to Motor Vehicle Accidents);
• Comprehensive policy knowledge;
• Comprehensive applicable legislative knowledge as well as the law of evidence and principles in law (e.g. law of apportionment of damages); and
• Technical knowledge of the litigation processes.
