About The Unit
Yara is looking for a Maintenance Manager to join our Business Unit Africa Team to support the region with managing plant and equipment maintenance. The position will work in close collaboration with the countries the Business Unit Region (Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia Cluster, and within South Africa).
The position will focus on increasing operational efficiencies through technical best practice, ensuring that Yara’s operational and HESQ policies are clearly defined and implemented.
The position will be based in our Johannesburg office and will report to the Operations Manager. Extensive travelling into the units will be required.

Yara is looking for a Maintenance Manager to join our Business Unit Africa Team to support the region with managing plant and equipment maintenance. The position will work in close collaboration with the countries the Business Unit Region (Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia Cluster, and within South Africa).

Responsibilities
- Ensure that local legislations and Yara steering systems are adhered to at all times.
- Responsible for optimizing all plant equipment and machinery by assessment and providing technical expertise to the teams.
- Manage the process of acquiring new machinery and equipment, and also the disposal process of obsolete machinery and equipment.
- Assist with management of contractors on site to ensure they comply legally and with company requirements.
- Develop and implement planned preventative maintenance schedules and ensure implementation.
- Audit compliance of engineering systems
- Assist with preparation of annual maintenance budget, forecasts and capital expenditure proposals.
- Accountable for maintenance and material spend and a strategy to manage expenditure
- As part of the Operations Team, share ideas and improvements for operations in the region
- Indirect management and coaching of local maintenance teams to meet agreed objectives and improving efficiencies
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Minimum degree or diploma (operations / engineering)
- Trade Tested (mechanical/electrical)
- At least 5 years’ experience in leading a team of multi-disciplined artisans at management level
- Good understanding of LEAN manufacturing
- Advanced computer literacy - MS Projects, MS Office
- Sound understanding of preventative maintenance programs
- Ability to motivate and influence indirect reports
- Project management skills
- Ability to train and coach at all levels in the organization
- Ability to fit in and accept diverse cultures and behaviours
- Must be willing to travel extensively
